As you can see, the keep him option is slightly ahead of the shoot him. Then, the Hoochie-woochie factor creates a decisive majority in favor of keeping Balz.

Of course, BDU reviewed this case on strictly naval merit.
In command of the type VIIC U-53. Kptlt. Balz logged 8 patrols, 2 local training cruises and 6 combat patrols. He has never returned from patrol with less than 100,000 BRT to his credit. Presently he has accumulated a total of 712,622 BRT, no mean amount for a VII type U-Boat.

Balz has returned to Lorient today at noon. He reported a frustrating 26 day patrol with 5 torpedo failures, 2 premature explosions and 3 that failed to detonate. Nevertheless, his tonnage was 108,426 BRT.

Therefore BDU is basing U-53 & Kptlt. Balz in Lorient. Case closed.

Keep him. He will be the only thing left to laugh about when we have lost the war.

Due to the abnormally long depth charge we sustained. Our response came in late:

"Although that Herr Balz is an upmost arragent and most times, annoying kalueen. This Kapt. believe that however insulted 1 person might feel about him, his arragance and self worship can be, with some skill, taken as quite humorous. That said, I believe BdU should continue to supply him with all the duties and privlages of his rank. What is more, he wages a very successfull submarine war."
