True, but as far as i can see...down to the version nr on the screen...don't look like a beta to me, if it is its very close to the real thing.

All the stuff that i have checked (not all yet) seems to stack up to the fixes in the read me.

But anyhow, looks like I only have to work on the .ini when the real one comes. So far I have fixed all my MODs using the .ini based on this "BETA" and its not a big job.

That's basically what I wanted to know, and that's why i got it in the 1st place. Could well be there is more stuff that needs tweaking when the real deal comes, but this is a good indicator I think.

Well, it's nice to know it's so close to completion.

I feel obliged to gamers, not the industry (rejected some ridiculous T-shirt contest offerings lately from the publisher of SH4...) the beta (or-not-so-beta ;)) thingie will be available from UBRS DLC in a few hours.

Edit: the installshield notes 'game updated to 1.03.0000'

Update is done without problem, SH4 is running fine, seems like the features do work as advertised.

Now to the upload...

even if it was beta and the final patch differs from that what can ones lose?

reinstalling the game takes 15 minutes.

CaptainCox 07-09-07 02:31 PM

I actually did a 1/1 back up of the SH4 folder using "Acronis True Image" if I need to revert back, it will take less then 4 min or so, with all the mods still installed ;)

Why would you want a beta version of a patch that tries to fix the game in the beta stage? Don't you have enough of the bugs?

Trailing a jap merchant for 10 minutes surfaced and submerged and within a few hundred yards of her without a "ship spotted" notification or sonar contact reported is already pretty bad. I hope this is a good patch when it comes!

GT182 07-09-07 04:38 PM

:hmm: Just imagine how you'd feel if you grab a beta patch and it contains a worm or something more malicious, and it scrambles everthing on your HDD. Thanks but no thanks on a patch until it's an "Official" release. :yep:

Ya can't put a condom on your computer to keep it safe. ;) That's basicly what John's trying to say.

I'll wait till the relase. Let's wait till the work is fully done.

Im breaking my self imposed ban from Subsim to express my contempt at whoever leaked the patch. Particuarlly if said leak originated from a modder. Last week, I (and im assuming other modders as well) was approached by the representative of the developer, asking if i would like access to the files so that i may be able to start updating my mod..... providing that i keep it to myself! For this leak to occur, there was obviously a breach of trust involved. Its rare that a developer would do this, ultimatly to better support the community. Hence, im a bit upset about this leak. If there is a another game, next time, the community might not recieve this level of support again.

Anyway, yes the full (cumulative?) patch is just under 200 megs, yes the data files as they currently exist are encrypted and PW protected. No i will not tell you where to get them, nor the password to unlock them. At anyrate, unless my installation is botched (1.2 to 1.3 upgrade, much smaller), you dont want the beta patch anyway. There are at least a couple things that have glaring issues, no i will not discuss the contents of the patch.

I will say a little on how the patch relates to Tmaru (and possibly other mods). In sum, some changes i made in Tmaru, may, or may not still be neccessary, depending on outcome of final patch. The AI is indeed improved, or at least, the looking over of the pertainant files would seem to inidicate. Suffice to say, the changes are such that im tossing my own AI settings out the window for now until ive had a chance to playtest Ubi's NEW settings. BTW, tweak files for dats that relate to the AI sensors, and Player sensors will have to be rewritten.

I now return myself to Davy Jone's locker.

Ducimus - Well stated mate. I for one wont use a prelim patch - when the thing is ready I will dl and use it - until then I give the devs the time they need. They are working on it - and I can wait.

If you dl a leaked patch - dont be screaming that "this" or "that" didnt work or get fixed - if it aint official - it aint ready. Before long you will see someone screaming that a preliminary build sux so the official 1.3 must too - what a croc of (Self censuring invoked to protect the non-sailor ears and eyes of some posters) - but you get the point.

Give Ubi the time to do this right. If you get burned playing with fire - dont cry here....
