During the Iran/Iraq war a bomb exploded in Tehran, if I recall correctly, damaging a warehouse. The emergency workers and civilians responding were surprised to find floating in the air, guess what...? Yes thousands of pages from the Satanic Verses. The good people were outraged until they discovered that... The warehouse was being used by the Iranian clergy, the top mullahs in fact, and these were their copies of the SV. Seems they had had a very large special edition run for themselves, for reseach purposes only, of course. An additional problem was that I think these were illegally printed copies. Of course.

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Not that they're hippocrites or anything like that.

It sounds a little like "The Handmaiden's Tale" or "Logan's Run".
