Vista RC2 wouldn't load up a relative's USB Smartphone drivers the other day. After digging around a bit.. Microsoft's KB said I had to go in and modify the .inf driver install file.
Thanks Vista, you piece of sh*t. |
To me Vista seems like progress for progress' sake. The economic directive of all these corporations is to sell and keep selling. OSX is looking pretty spiffy and most Linux distros are way better looking than XP by far. So Microsoft needed to plug a new product to keep their market share buying. Vista is just a desperate grab at competing with M$'s much more competent rivals.
I still think XP is a pile of crap. It works but it gets so bloated so fast. I end up reinstalling it every few months at least because I game alot, install lots of new programs, and also XP doesn't sit well on a multi boot system with Linux. But Vista... I don't even really understand what it does. Better security? I get that fine with 3rd party firewalls and virus scanners on XP. Software compatibility is crap at this point. So is driver compatibility. Compared to XP its a real system hog and with worse performance. I can't make lemonade with that. |
Microsoft would be my hero if they just released something with no frills; just a pure, built for speed OS. Nothing for people who just bought their first computer or anything. It wouldn't be hard... in fact much easier!

People want flash, they want miracles, and they want it all without any effort whatsoever. Besides, the open source community owns the simple, well built, unfrilly market. Macs own the useless word processing, over built, underused, pretty white clear plastic market. Microsoft owns that part of the market that still buys cars made by Pontiac. |
I think XP is solid with the exception of boot up time. With my 100GB laptop and SP3 it takes over seven minutes from flicking the switch before the drive light goes out. Thats with the start-ups etc pared down.

Everytime I reinstall it it runs beautifully fast and takes something like a minute to boot fully. But within a week its already getting bloated with longer loading times and sluggish reactions. Defragging and all that helps some but its just overall a very inefficient program. Its like a glass tower. It looks pretty but you can topple it with a few minor errors or corrupt core files. It isn't compartmentalized like Linux or as truly solid as OSX. Thats just my experience anyway. It does work alot but it just fails so spectacularly sometimes. |
I've had machines running XP for years and they don't drag. Defrag your HD once in a while. Might help your issue of it begining to drag. On Vista however, it is just basically XP at an evolutionary step. I draw very many similarities to 98SE and ME. That is the difference between the XP and Vista.
I am sick of programs having 'known compatibility problems' in Vista however. Even this morning, I figured I'd load up my favorite version of Power DVD - but NO! You can't do that! It doesn't work with Vista! You need to get the latest version to work with Vista! I want my older version, not the new version because the old version when it takes screenshots it will capture subtitles and menu selections on screen. THe new versions don't do that. Uggh! -S |
I think the business strategy behind Vista, even more than past MS OS' seems a lot like that of iTunes. Or maybe iTunes just copied the MS Business Model?
Gates and Jobs are chums again aren't they? |
Uggh! Wanted to install Nero Express this morning to burn some CD's. It installs fine, but won't link to the burner! Looking online and there is no fix for it either (without buying a newer version), so chock up another app that won't run. Seems to be a daily occurance that I am getting tired of.

My house is a Vista free zone and I plan on keeping it that way. Vista stinks.

My advice if you want a Vista feel but still want the stbility and reliability of a mature OS - http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop...ico-Pack.shtml

As I said daily program incompatibilities - today it is AdAware 2007. It runs, but before you can delete the items the scan finds, it crashes out before it finishes making it unusable.

Don't think you're safe from Update hell when using Vista either. It is not any more secure than XP.
Here is my latest update log. I count 40 updates: http://img78.imageshack.us/img78/842...updatesuu9.gif |
