Yup...task forces are the way to go!

Bigger Diamonds = Bigger Task force.

Only the serious ones carry Carriers, especially Fleet Carriers.

I too had the 6 in 1 TF - 2 Fleets and 4 Escorts... sunk nothing as I was hit by the leading DD and had a helluva a time running away

Anyway, when you find one it'll all be worth it :D

Kobe usually has a fine arsenal floating about in harbour, and I usually find a massive TF on the way back out to deeper water. Sunk so many carriers and Yamato's, I've lost count.:shifty:

Hello!

I've just played a mission which required to patrol the Luzon Strait in 1941.
I came across a task force and tried to close in. It was composed by 2 fleet carriers and 4 escort carriers, 2 heavy cruisers and some 6 DDs. along with a large tanker and some 2 medium merchants.
I attacked with 3 torps a fleet carrier and with 1 torp an escort carrier.
After more than an hour these 2 were still alive along with a single DD searching for me.
I kept close and sent one more torp to the escort carrier, and it sunk in few mins, then 2 more torps on the fleet carrier, it sunk immediately.

Well, this is it. I spent all my remaining torps.

I could send one to the DD which staied for many minutes near the escort carrier while it was sinking. Would have been an easy target.

that sounds like the exact same one i saw.

I played dozens of "patrols" before I blundered into large task force which had carriers in it.

I fired off 4 torpedoes at it.. .all hits.

She proudly steamed on at full speed.

I noticed the escorts with these tf's act very different from other convoys. They are more aggressive and accurate but much more likely to break off and rejoin the convoy.

Stock convoy escort AI is set to novice with a few to "poor."

Oddly, the same DDs decide to lay off the sake when on fleet duty, and are set to "veteran" or "elite."

Odd that the CV sailed off, I usually sink them with 1 shot. they always roll over.

Remember, historically, carriers are pretty rare indead . . . and as the war progresses become even fewer in number . . . but as for targetting, for the most part, treat them as Cruisers . . . as all but a few were built on cruiser hulls.

On my first patrol in the Celeb Sea in good old S-37 I came across a TF with 3 Carriers. I put two Mk 10's into a Fleet Carrier and then got out of Dodge for a while (just to let things cool down a bit... the Op-For seemed a little upset).

Having marked the last position of my victim I came back an hour or so later an found him with a 20 degree list to port and dead in the water. I put myself in a perfect firing position and let him have one more MK10. Then I sat back and watched him sloooooowly roll over on his side and slip below the waves.

It was a thing of beauty to watch.

In my previous career, I came across a task force with carriers instead of BBs. Sadly, out of torps. Reported them, though! Other than that, the only carriers I came accross were in the bay off of Osaka and Hiroshima. In my second career, I'm in february '43 and haven't encountered one carrier yet.

I think it's Kobe harbour I've been into about 5 times, but there's always been at least one, even in mid 1942. I'll take a look at the in-game map and figure out exactly which harbour hits the jackpot.

I found 2 carriers docked at Rabaul I believe it was. Not as exciting as finding them sailing in a convoy, but believe me- I enjoyed sinking them both :yep:

Good luck to you, and good hunting :arrgh!:
