I just woke up right now and I had the craziest dream! In my dream I realized that AVGWarhawk and the Tusk were really in San Luis, which is just 30 minutes away from me. I was all excited and got down there at 7:00 AM. I met AVG and the guy who owned the Tusk. I don’t know AVG in real life, but in my dream he was a crazy old man who had the look of a vet and was full of knowledge about the sub. The owner was this extremely rich guy, and we had to walk through this huge building with tons of stairs. It was also extremely dark, and there were seats everywhere kind of like a movie theater. I had boots on and I could hear people saying "SHHHHHHH" when I took a step but I wondered how the hell I could go any quieter. Then we reached the Tusk. My dad was with me, and he started taking pictures of her. I went inside and then I woke up.
:o What the hell?:rotfl: |

I live about 45 minutes west of Philly. Did some work there a couple years ago, polishing up some enormous power generators that were being shipped off to Iraq right after the invasion. Part of the restoration efforts right after Saddam fell. Some really cool stuff there at the shipyard. If I remember correctly, I think there's a carrier there. |

OT: USS Batffish Fourth of July celebration
On the 4th of July this year, The U.S.S. Batfish will be holding a fourth of July celebration. The celebration will entail the following: The U.S. Army with some vehicles, They are going to try and set up a game room with 5-10 computers to play Silent Hunter 4 (the park has already set it up with UBI in order to get the game), there will be a craft fair, fireworks all around, a BBQ, an open house for the sub, and a movie on the side of the sub. So try to come down to Muskogee Oklahoma to visit the "Submarine killing submarine" of World war two. It will be loads of fun.
Here is the website for directions etc: www.ussbatfish.com |
Sounds like it will be an amazing experience:up:

This looks to be the destination for parts. Some parts for the Cavalla as well. I can not go this time as they allow only 5 people from each project group to come and get what they need. I'm scheduled for the next one:up: Going to be quite interesting to go to the boneyard.

I hope for a large turnout and some new found interest in the Batfish! I will be dining on the deck of the Torsk watching the fireworks in the inner harbor of Baltimore!
|
I will be volunteering at the Batfish over the entire summer. And if anyone cant make it for the fourth of July try to come down another time. A sad piece of news is the memorial day events had to be pushed back beacause of lack of interest. check out the local news page on it, there is video at bottom of article that says: "Veterans event scaled back after lack of interest"

Batfish is in OK, right? What part of the state, exactly?
We have friends near Oklahoma city (wife used to live in Edmond), maybe she'd be game to go see a sub if she got to see her old friends :D tater |
Yes the Batfish is in Oklahoma, it is far East of Oklahoma city, it is about a half hour to an hours drive from Tulsa.
|
I hope you get more interest in the Batfish. It has been quite a struggle from what I have read on this submarine.
|
Yes I hope so too, I think the problem is that alot of people dont know it is there because it is kind of hidden, and so far away from water. Also some people dont have any respect or knowledge of the service all the soldiers of WWII did for this country, Im 17 and alot of kids my age barely care that something like the Batfish, or any other WWII sub for that matter is still around today.
