Id like to go back to SH3 but couldnt face the awful graphics, I dont want to offend any one but after playing SH4 the SH3 graphics are a bit tired in comparison, too bad the game play in SH3 GWX/NYGM leave SH4 for dead
I've been corrupted by SH4's wonderful graphics, but have little patience with SH4 cos every time I play I find a new bug or inconsistency. I must say there is a Coral Sea mod from the German web site which is very good. I want to go back to the Atlantic, basically I'm waiting for the next installment from the GWX crew as I'm hoping there will be enough significant changes to allow me to see past the SH£ ship models Quote:

It depends on what you perceive as a graphical improvement :hmm: To some it might be a new unit with a different or as yet unseen skin....To others it is a sharper clearer picture with a totally different kind of texture like say, those seen in SH4. (depending on the individuals viewpoint) I meant the latter :yep: |

Personally speaking I think the only graphical improvement IMO in SH4 is the water...and even that is debatable :hmm:

The various effects in the water are impressive, light shafts, algae ( a mod has toned this down a bit ), and water transparency is nice. Storm water needs some work though, the effect seems correct, just does look right in its present state.

Oh dear I said a bad thing!
Sorry Guys as I said I did not want to offend any one! Re SH3 graphics, my real problem is with the merchants and effects, this is what I meant by awful graphics.
I played SH3 for ages and loved it, but I always had a problem with the poor modelling of the merchants, ie the targets. Many are awful, take the small merchants or large tankers, they would not look out of place in an old Tom and Jerry or Bugs Bunny carttoon. Then if you take your camera above a certain height, you get miles and miles of...tiles. And the smoke, explosions and lighting effects are primative. SH4 is streets ahead of this, providing your computer is up to it, I paid a pile to upgrade my PC to play SH4, I was overawed by the graphics, then I discovered the game play. Now I cant say I'm all that enthused to play either game, SH3/GWX game play are fantastic, but graphics are 'old hat and fail to excite SH4 graphics are fantastic but game play is to say the least useless, I guess I'll have to wait for SH5. Perhapos the word awful was a bit extreme, perhaps you would accept, dull. Quote:

After the honeymoon with SH4 I returned back to SH3 GWX. I hope no one gets offended, but the Pacific theatre just doesn`t do it for me. When you get the SD/SJ radars it gets boring quickly.
It`s much more exciting with ships popping out of the fog than seeing them on a radar 30nm away. |
I like the various ways that ships blow up; break up and sink in SH4 although SH3 is great in my opinion. Until they get SH4 fixed I will not be playing it. Too many bugs and CTDs for me. :nope:
