I have experienced CTDs in 1.2 with my old machine (AMD 2600+/1GB/Radeon 9800 Pro/XP Pro SP1), and with my brand new machine—very vanilla at this point— a E6600/2GB/GF 8800GTS.
On the current rig it usually seems to be going from map view/TC to a "real" view. Last night it happened without TC, just going to an external view. Happens not terribly often, but enough that I curse it when I fail to save frequently enough. The new rig loads the game, then a save or new mission faster than my old rig got the main game screen up, so reloading is not much of a hardship, lol. tater |
Only 3 so far.
1st with stock 1.0 (stadiometer). 2nd with 1.1 (A key, my curiosity got the best of me). 3rd with 1.2 (high time compression in rough seas as I was closing on a large contact). Though considering the amount of time I've put in so far, the CTDs I've had (or could have) haven't been much of a concern. Overall SHIV is arguably one of the most stable games currently installed on my computer. |
Only after I installed vista:damn: but things are smoothing out now, none on my last 3 patrols:yep:

I've had two or three. Not a huge issue since I'm a firm beleiver in the save, save, save principal.

Not yet.

I seem to have them but only within a few minutes of either starting patrol or loading a saved game. And so far it's been a pattern of 2 CTDs per time. Mind you I've only been playing for a week, and I'm still on my first patrol in my first career.
I reinstalled SH4 and applied 1,2 patch without ever starting the game as directed as directed by AVGWarhawk. Actually I had 2 CTD's right after starting a career and I didn't realized the starting points were saved, and I just started another one, but again, in 2's, I had another CTD and never left the pier! Third time was a charm and I had no problems until I reloaded the next night. This time I exited my anti-virus program and only had 4 icons running in the task bar. The clock, Nvidia settings, sound volume and the hardware icon (for USB devices). Same thing, 2 CTDs then it went smoothly. Next I am turning off the sound, and see what difference that makes. I have the graphics option set to high. I am playing with no mods. AMD Athlon(tm)XP 3000+ 2GB RAM GeForce 7800 GS 256 RAM Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. My pc never crashes any other time. I'm looking into whether or not I can add more RAM to the video card. Although it hasn't cause a CTD, during TC the frame rate goes way down for 5-10 seconds, and the game just boggs down, then it appears to clear up. Not sure if this is something the devs can look into this time around. But cheers to them for what they are doing!! |
Heavy user of mods - never any CTD's.

Just last night i decided to start a career in 1943 with a Gar Class, in Freemantle australia, Whenever i leave port whether its in port or just out side of port, just a few minutes after i start the patrol i get a CTD.
I tried the same year but in another harbour and got no CTD. Only happens in Freemantle. |
yup, nice and quiet without so much as a firework:-?

I think the CTDs have more to do with hardware issues such as drivers, conflicts, overheating, etc than bugs or we would all be getting them, especially the guys with over 50 or 100 hours of gameplay. |

Same Here. :D |
I had heaps - till I read somewhere that the Power Supply needs to be decent.
Since upgrading from my Dell in-built 230W (I thought I'd get away with only one HDD) to a 430w cheapo I've had very few. 3 or 4 in enemy harbours, usually when on the surface with the deck gun and one when ending a patrol... Now I have a 620w corsair - it's sooooo quiet, I'm probably using it at 40% capacity... :D |
After installing a clean XP version I didn't have any problems. On my Vista installation i frequently got CTD's
|
I had a CTD or two, but nothing worth noting and certainly nothing I wouldn't expect. In fact both SHIII and SHIV I would rank as more stable than most other games I play.
|
While my CTDs are somewhat infrequent, I have never had even one problem of any kind with Il-2, and I've been playing that literally for years.
