As an avid "il2 Sturmovik" "18 patrol SH3" player :yep: In my PERSONAL opinion Ubi have made the same mistake TWICE :yep: The European/Atlantic operations is not won/lost on a single battle/conflict :know: whereas the Pacific could claim total victory  on the sinking of certain ships :-? The "poor guys" at Ubi have to make a saleable game out of History The SH3 (GWX)mods have made a brilliant difference to this game The same guys probably dont have so much scope for SH4 (apart from eye candy) I thought Ubi done themselves an injustice moving from Russian Front to Pacific in il2 I feel they have done the same injustice in Atlantic to Pacific in Silent Hunter More time/£££$$$ could have been used improving the game in the original theatres regarding realism, immersion, gameplay etc.... Just my opinion :D |

Starforce. As for the comment about the Pacific not being worth it...where do you get the idea : Quote:

I find the Atlantic more appealing, maybe because I am European? dunno.
The atlantic is more spooky, and a lot of enemies in GWX3. Dunno of Sh4 since it eats my computer for breakfast. Maybe thats the reason there are so many world war two movies playing against the germans, and less movies with the japanese. And then, on SH4.. it could be that the expectations were to high ? |
Hi Joe, SHIII never had anywhere near as many bugs as SHIV, but you are correct Starforce was bad, but I tell you what Securom aint much better, 2 out of 5 times I got an error (code 1000) stating I had an illegal copy!:-? Why does UBI use this type of protection I don't know, they only punish the genuine owner!!:nope:
But on a lighter note lets all take up ballet!! Kaloo Kalay!!:88) Sorry I don't know what came over me!! |
Oh well I'm getting tired of the arguing. Regardless of anything, SHIV should have been better just cause it was built on SHIII. Thank goodness for the good people who made SHIII and the new crop who have made some nice stuff for SHIV.
Back to the Black Sea for me, gotta fight those Reds. :arrgh!: |

I'd like to think that we are all on the same team here at Subsim. I didn't realize such an "Us and Them" mindset had developed over here. You're belittling the SH4 guys, yet your very post of "Let me pick on those guys" doesn't demonstrate behavior that's any better. It's worth noting too, that Neal himself is one of those people you are accusing of not being 'grounded in reality'. SH3 had just as many whiners until some patches came out. We're all brothers at sea here at subsim. Let's not kick each other when we're down. |
Well, after starting playing Silent Hunter III,all other games stopped existing for me.
Silent Hunter III is the game, that really blows my mind. It's especially charmfull, pleasant and intelligent. It's flawless. For sure.:D  |

I just could never get into SH4...just wasnt interested in starting over..American subs..not very pretty...plus..no Germans..lol. All these sims I like being a German for some reason:D . WW1, WW2 cause mainly they had all the coolest equipment, paint jobs, snappy uniforms....if it ever gets fixed might try it someday
|
Just transferred from SHIV. I haven't played a sub sim since 1986, so I was quite excited about trying SHIV when I stumbled into it by accident. Now i'm totally submerged as I was 20 years ago.
I've given up on SHIV due to a couple of crash dives to desktop just when I was in a perfect position to take on a carrier group, so I'll leave it on the shelf until it gets fixed and/or modded to completion. Yesterday I went and bought SHIII and promptly installed GWX. Oh what joy ... it's just amazing that the interface and gameplay is so much better than SHIV IMHO. GWX is the most amazing mod I have ever seen! even the 300+ page manual is an excellent product by itself - I took it to bed last night and didn't sleep before 5 AM ... what a sterling piece of work. The need to micro-manage the crew is a bit annoying, but I can live with that since the AI is excellent and provides a real challenge. Now back to chasing those slippery zig-zagging convoys without a radar ... |

More time/£££$$$ could have been used improving the game in the original theatres regarding realism, immersion, gameplay etc.... Just my opinion :D[/quote] If ya gonna read my post.....read it to the end :know: I think SH3 vanilla is a great game (patches? ?........I've installed enough patches from Ubi to make a quilt :damn: ) BUT the mods (GWX,Captain America..etc :|\\ ) made SH3 BRILLIANT UBI should have SH4 vanilla to (at least) the level we enjoy at SH3......THANKS TO THE MODS :()1: instead they AGAIN introduce a different theatre and tweak a couple of things, hoping to attract new blood to a great game, which will depend on MODS to make brilliant maddysad |
Silent Hunter III,never mind stock one or with Add-ons,either mods has got a potential for maybe,5 - 7 years future gaming. You know,I never look to the software shelves being in supermarket now.No interest in that at all.I have got the most intelligent, unpredictable and charmfull game ever. So,after finishing playing my Silent Hunter III with U-Boat Battle in the Mediterranean Add-On,I will go in for GWX,after that I will try other mods.:D
What are the main reasons of Silent Hunter III success?I think it is the plot or story behind the game. It has already become a brand of popular culture.A trademark-lonely ship crosses the Atlantic during World War II.Total stress atmosphere.Nobody around.Only waves of endless ocean. And sudden huge explosion quakes the ship. And nobody knows where the death has come from. It's Befelshaber Der Unterseeboote,Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine :D  |
SH3 is gonna be on top a long, long time. Oh, eventually a sub sim will come along to knock it off its perch. That's normal evolution in gaming. But right now it's still the best and it will always have a special place in our hearts.
Now, back to that tramp steamer off Dogger Bank.... |
