I went to the securom website after 1st time it happened and confirmed settings in device manager were correct....unfortunately still did not work.

I loved SH3 and waited until patch 1.2 released to install SH4. I never would have thought I would have problems on machine i'm using as most simulations install and run great after few tweeks (even if not devoloped for Vista). This is a bummer to say the least.

I appreciate advice so far and welcome any additional comments, etc. Thanks again for help and I'll keep you guys posted if problem is ever resolved.

Your rig is better than mine and I play both at full throttle with Big and alot of mods with high fps. 60 to80 avg.

I shut everything down to just a gamin rig and no probs.

3 yo.

Intel 2.4Ghz
2 gigs ddr ram
7600 512 NV AGP
500 watts ps

Defrag , shut stuff off and give it a try. Good Luck ?

Read all.... Still try simple stuff first. Don't try to reivent the mousetrap :D

I don't know if this works in vista, but you should try left clicking on my computer clicking on manage -> system tools -> event viewer -> application. See if there is any red X error messages that have the same date and time that you tried running the game and maybe some people here can help or you can google the error code.

Can you imagine how much more finished this game would have been if they didn't take time out to program all of these anti-nocd crack "mods"?

Could you imagine how good Windows would be if Microsoft didnt have to spend so much time and money patching security flaws because of some people's dishonesty? Makes me wonder what will happen to Mac OS now that its invulnerability is beginning to be challenged.

I'm sure that Ubisoft and other companies would be happy not to have to pay Starforce or Securom for their protection systems, but thanks to a minority of dishonest people we have to deal with cumbersome CD-keys, disc verification systems, and so on.

The noteable example of course is Galactic Civilizations which doesn't incorporate any invasive form of protection. It will certainly be interesting to see if Stardock releases more games if these will have protection or not, beyond the serial number required to register for patches, which I happen to think is a really nice system.

Interesting you brought up Microsoft and its Windows OS. Similarly to SH4 it was released FARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR in advance of when it should have been. I see quite a few similarities between the two. :nope:

Thanks for responses. I have yet to figure why the sim will not run and i'm getting a bit obsessed with finding solution (assuming one exists). Believe me, I have done my best to justify blaming it on Vista, but I don't think its necessarily the OS. Here are a few more details regarding problem that I noticed last night:

I click on Play icon, mouse pointer shows "working" symbol-then "spinning cd" icon (spinning-cd icon lasts about 10 secs), then the Vista "sidebar" blinks for a split-second, then absolutely nothing. Everything is fine which is the problem, as I would prefer a blue-screen crash or something. I checked "task manager" and sure enough...sh4.exe is shown as a running "process." I terminated the process and then tried again. Still same results. I confirmed last night that all my drivers are up-to-date.

I have a very "clean" hard drive as my rig is mainly for gaming/internet, so I don't have a lot of additional programs running at any given time. Disc is defragged once a week at a scheduled time. Still, I suspect it is some program that is running that securom has blacklisted or something. I honestly don't know.

Its just disappointing considering I have had great results with all other simulations and I would suspect this sim would look wonderful with my setup. I don't know if SH4 is available as a "direct download" from retailer, but that may be my next attempt.

Thanks again for responses. I appreciate the help so far,
Brandon

Try visiting the liteon web site and see if there is an update to the firmware in your dvd drive. If there is, flash the drive, uninstall and reinstall the game fresh.

Defragging is over-rated especially on a system such as yours. No need to get caught up in wearing out your HD unnecessarily.

Have you written SecureCom stating your issues?

Maybe they have a newer version of the SecureCom software ;)
