To norrow it down i bit i was getting at the people that wet themselfs as soon as one soildier gets killed and yells we should not be at war this is all wrong. These are type of people that make me sick. People need to know that people are working hard out there so they can live there nice easy life in comfort. As i said before its what we signed up for. a bit of surport would not go amiss.
I just find it sad that we have become a country full of liberal do gooders who would rather bury there heads in the sand and hope the bad people just go away.

I presume it wasn't a crisis of any sort as far as you were concerned because you weren't one of those taken captive :hmm:

Yeah that'd be right

Well, at the risk of taking this thread way off topic, (we probably already have, so I dont want to get into a whole debate...but..)...I think everybody understands that soldiers can and will die in combat. I think alot of people dont feel that american or british forces need to be there in the first place. Especially here in the US, alot of people feel a bit cheated. They dont view the war as a neccesity, and therefore dislike the idea of troops being sent into harms way without it being absolutly neccesary.

Again, I want to avoid hijacking this thread (too late! doh!), so if you want to discuss further via PM or on another thread, i'd be glad to.

Let me try to bring this thread back to its original topic by saying that regardless of anybosys politics, having these folks come home safe and without bloodshed is a good end to a bad event. Im glad it's over.

A very large % of troops here are against the iraq war and related deployments purely as they dont see it as having anything to do with defending the UKs interests home or abroad.

Troops in legitimate wars defending the interests of the country are fine. Troops going into dubious wars based on lies and misleading with no purpose other than political means is a totally different matter.

This is very good news.

Does anyone think the deployment of USS Nimitz to the Gulf could have made the difference; three carriers and their respective cruisers, destroyers, and submarines in the region?

Yes it was handled pretty much as well as could be expected.

Hard to tell. Sometimes these guys strike me as being foolish enough to not fear such things.

Of course, when you have enough firepower to make Iran into a parking lot in under 12 hours sitting off your coast, im sure it doesn't hurt in those diplomatic negotiations....:yep:

I just thought it funny that the Iranians knew they had nothing to fear from the French, one of Iran's largest trading partners.

I'm very happy for the sailors and their families. Britain sighs with relief.

Bloody cheek calling it a "gift to the UK" though

Iceman 04-04-07 03:22 PM

Am I the only one wondering about all the things the captives were saying ,like how they knew they were trespassing and shame shame etc on they're homeland...is this some major BS or what...What I am wondering is were they forced with a samurai sword at the back of they're heads to make the statements they made or did they feel that, that was coming next or what. Some serious !@#$%1234'ed up stuff if you ask me.I mean I see, or saw, how the people in the streets of Iran re-acted to them...they wanted Blood.

Don't mean to go off topic and very happy they are home just the whole thing stinks like politics do stink...dat guy in Iran worries me...almost as much as Nancy Pelosie does taking senic trips to Syria...crazy lady/crazy people.

I thank god (or whoever) that the sailors were British. It seems like the Brits didn't forget how to use diplomacy and handle situations like this. It shows that they think before they shoot. Sadly this isn't true to all forces in the area. (http://www.americanchronicle.com/art...rticleID=22824)
