True, it was answered, but...

It is complicated... because where does it tell me if it is safe to dive or not? It doesn't. Therefore when I dive and my engines don't work and I sink like a stone how do I know what is going on, is it the boat is knackered, or is it bugs in the programming? How can you tell the difference? Which is what is most irritating about SH4, I'm sorry for my language but to cut a long story short, SH4 is crap and I don't like it. I was nuts to think I could play both U-Boats and American Subs.

Tijn 03-30-07 06:43 PM

I returned in Bergen a couple of hours ago after leaving the pacific for the time being. It's not the bugs that concern me the most, but the complete lack of you actually being there! The voices are dull and most of the time i can't understand them (i'm not german!! ;)). The enemy's are dumber then the monster from painkiller and controlling the boot is a bitch...

I really hope it gets better in time but my biggest fear is that the pacific just isn't my theater for submarine's.

@gdogghenrikson

Nazi Germany=Bad guys
Allied=good guys.

pretty obvious from where I sit.

well

allied kills a german human= good??

when is it good to kill someone??

so if I shot a child molester I am a "good guy"??

how about if a child molester shot a wanted bank robber is he a "good guy"?

war is not about good guy and bad guy

war is an Ugly thing

Ummm no it's not...its got potential. Don't see what is so dramatic about playing 2 different sides but whatever...

Penelope_Grey 03-30-07 06:53 PM

Well I consider the Nazi's the bad guys immaterial to who shot who, Hitler started the war, he ordered the final solution, he saw to the death of countless millions right on up till the end, so yeah, I stand by my original statements.

I think Pen is refering to the way history looks at the Axis as being the bad guys and the allies as the good ones

Yes war is an ugly thing - a necessary evil sometimes - but this is a game and should be treated as such

Not a debate into good and evil

To me its crap. I don't like the game as it stands now. I far prefer SH3 and everything about it, and from what I hear in the beginning it wasn't up to much either. Maybe SH4 has got potential, probably does, but I'd have rather waited a bit longer for it than got it now and been disapointed by it like I was.

Glad we got that sorted.

Well, move on lads, nothing else to be said. Thank god all the NYGM team or the GWX team didn't think that eh?
Otherwise, we'd all be playing PS3 or Xbox with supa cool subs that dive in 2 seconds, have überfast, unlimited reloads and damage control from the starship enterprise. Wouldn't that be fun? :yep:

Hartmann 03-30-07 07:05 PM

Sh4 has a lot of potential , but now is too buggy . i´m going to go to the pacific, but not before the last patch

Go to the pacific now is too dangerous, you have to fight against japanese and your boat bugs at the same time,:rotfl:

broken devices, pumps leakings, radar malfuntions... dumb repair crew...

Yeah it would be a barrel of laughs, we should all do that instead. I mean, wow, wasn't I selfish and nasty to expect SH4 to actually work properly on recipt?

Ducimus 03-30-07 07:59 PM

WHen you've played SH3 as much as i have, they're's no going back.

Is SH4 buggy? Yup. Will it get better? Im 100% positive about it. The games been modded to where its more playable whilst we wait for the next patch. I didn't complain about the game, i just went about trying to fix it as best i could. As a game, Sh4 is in some respects superior to SH3. In other respects it fails because of its buggy state. To the casual user, SH4 would be REALLY hard to get into because of it.

As an aside on damage control; People are used to clicking "realistic repair times" or "realistic sub damage" and in SH3, it really didnt mean anything. The reality is, if your sub was hit by a shell, and the pressure hull punctured, you couldnt dive. Sh4's damage model reflects this reality. In SH3, you get a deduction from your hull integrity and your crush depth became shallower, in Sh4, if your bulkhead(pressure hull) has a large breach and if your submerged, your boat will flood faster then you can pump the water out. In SH3 (after mods), repairing your diesals took like maybe an hour or two, in SH4 it may take all day, which also is more realistic. (not to mention you can see your repair crew at work in the CR, tools in hand) Overall it took me awhile to get used to the idea, but in this respect the game is pretty deadly, and it keeps you on your toes. I certainly think twice before engaging in a gun battle with an armed target.

P_Funk 03-30-07 08:59 PM

Thats a very good point Ducimus. Everyone thought that the damage model was busted. Turns out that SH3 has socialized us so that we don't even recognize realism that we've always demanded.:up:

yes and sometimes when those people are working my frame rate drop to 1 and i have to leave the command centre and let the operation end so i can take them out and get again my frame rate (it's happens only sometimes and i don't know why?)

For now i am back to the U-boot too waiting for the REAL American submarines happy times :D
