Grey Wolves 1.0 and 1.1a was the first edition of the Grey Wolves experience. GWX is the new Grey Wolves Expansion that is 100 times better than Grey Wovles.

GWX includes all lot of things from tgw1.1a,
and GWX includes A LOT MORE to discover
read the manual as soon it is online

The manual for GWX 1.02 is online now. I'm uploading the manual for 1.03 now but will have to wait for JScones to add the tables pdf, the manual link will automatically update.

Hello friends. So I was reading this thread and saw two of you mention how important it is to have the GWX bin files inside the game directory when you install them. Is that the case? If so why is that? What can happen if you install it from its own folder elsewhere? I ask because I have had crashing issues that I have never been able to resolve with GWX, however I never installed GWX from inside the game directory, could that be the cause? Last question, do you put the GWX bin files in the SH3 main directory or in the data folder or what? Thanks so much!!!

EDIT: You know what I think I misread it, you all said to have the bin files in the same folder as the GWX exe file, not the game directory right? I guess thats not the cause of my crashing problem then. sigh....

@ Scalelokt

Are your crashes occuring at any particular point? Is there any kind of trigger?

One thing that might help is to increase your virtual memory if you have anything less than 1GB.

Yes, all the bin files & exe need to be in the same folder for the installation.

Hi Danlisa. Thanks for responding :)

The crashes I have can sometimes be pretty random but there is somewhat of a pattern. It usually goes down like this:

I start a patrol and start hunting. Everything is going fine and picking off single merchants has never caused a CTD. Then sooner or later I get a report of a convoy or task force. Assuming it is within range to intercept I immediately save my game and label it "convoy" and then make an intercept course. Eventually they come within range and I start the attack. I make a few hits usually and dive and the escape begins. This is where the CTD almost always happens. Sometimes it happens while I am being DC'd, sometimes it happens while the escorts are on their way to me but before they have actually reached me. However I can say with certainty that I only remember once getting a CTD DURING the attack, its always right afterward while the escorts are after me that I crash. At this point I just cant attack convoys or task forces, 9 out of 10 times it leads to a CTD, then when I load my previous save I attack again and the same thing happens.

At one point I had a save that I took during the attack and 10 seconds later it crashed. This was actually somewhat useful because I was able to make system changes and then load the game and quickly see if it made a difference or not. However after trying dozens of possible solutions I have found on the forum I have not been able to find a fix. I also have tested this with GWX and GWX 1.02 seperately, as well as with and without other mods, and always off of a fresh install. I've even tried it on Vista and XP. No matter what combination I try, I get the CTD either way.

It sounds like my system can't handle all the ships in a convoy, but it just doesnt seem possible. I have a 3 ghz P4, 2 gigs of RAM, Nvidia 6800GT OC video card. Not state of the art perhaps, but well above and beyond the requirements for the game. Also other intensive games work just fine, including SH4 and Oblivion. And to answer your question have virtual memory set to 2500 megs, usually it doesnt use more than 2 or 3 hundred. Any suggestions or advice is much appreciated. GWX/SH3 is my favorite game all time, hands down. But until I find some kind of fix it seems unplayable.

I'll pass this on to the devs to see if they can shed any light on it.

I do know there were problems similar to this in a single mission.:yep:

When SH3 CTD's do you get any kind of error message. Usually there is a dialog box and if you click on 'details' it will tell you the offending file that caused the crash.

If it happens again, can you post me the details?

Just finished reading the manual, LOL

In anycase I still cannot believe I never knew about this mod, I used to check the download section all the time on the main page, which was for mods, and never saw anything new.

In anycase I just want to make srue I have this right guys..

I cleaned up my PC by deleting old games, including SH4 :)

I am doing a Disk Defrag as we speak,

I am going reinstall SH3, install the latest patch 1.4b from UBI..

Then make a folder on my desktop and call it GWX ( I know it doesn't matter )

I will download all of the files including the .exe file and put them ALL in that folder.

Then install the GWX mod/game, Then I am going to install the 1.3 GWX version after that..

Finally I will double click the icon..

Is that basically it?

THANKS

i am going to do the same right after work. downloaded all the files at work on my laptop and burned them to discs so when i get home i can install right away. I hope i can find my SH3 CD :o

Looking forward to this. I think SH4 just re-awakened my desire to play SH3. Especially now that I have a PC that will run it with GWX. Looking forward to GSX, I am a wimp when it comes to these sims (I play at like 28% realism), so I hope it doesn't kick my a** too bad. Good times!

Just to clarify again;

The .exe file and the 5 bin files need to all be in the same folder. They don't need to be the your game folder, but rather just create a separate folder and put it wherever you want on your PC. Personally, I have created a separate folder in my "received files" folder in "My Documents", but that's just me.

There should be a "SH3" folder and a "Personnel files" folder in "My Documents". They might still work once you're finished installing, so you don't have to necessarily delete them, but rename them instead.

Rollback Commander if you use it, then disable the mods that were enabled with JSGME.

Once installation is done and you've checked to see if GWX runs ok, then rename the 2 folders in "My Documents" back the way they were prior to installation and restart game with current career to see if it works ok, thus avoiding to start a brand new career.

@Danlisa

Thanks much for forwarding this to the devs, it is very much appreciated :D

The CTD unfortunately is without an error message. The game freezes for about 3 seconds and the sound loops continuously then it closes back to the desktop without an error.

Send me a PM if you hear back from anyone of if you have other ideas for me to try. Thanks again!!
