That list can be spun in many different ways. Guys, if you're offering answers to the points, would ye mind including the full point, not just a 2/3-word summary? My scroll finger hurts from checking and rechecking

i suppose I'm more with Letum than SUBMAN here (quelle surprise..:)), but mostly because he's added "highly subjective"....

Socialism is not communism. You cannot use the terms interchangably. Socialism is an economic philosophy. Communism is a governing style. The Soviet Union was a Socialist Dictatorship. It was never communist. In fact, there has never been a communist nation.

YES FINALLY SOMEONE WHO IS BACKING THE IDEA OF SOCIALISM IS PERFECT (in theory) communism made it look bad:down:

ASWnut101 03-21-07 04:31 PM

I don't think he was backing it, more of separating the meanings of the two words.

And what do you mean by "communism made it look bad?"

Tchocky 03-21-07 04:31 PM

Ha. Where you getting that from? :)

I think its about as far from perfect that you can get - both in values and morals.

Oops, I take that back, it is perfect in a robot society. I guess if robots knock us off, except for a slave population, it might be perfect, and I suspect robots would also follow the same sort of linear society. Not much freedom in that.

-S

PS. Old addage - Give me Freedom or give me Death! Socialism is not freedom.

PPS. One more thought - your Hummer that you're all proud about doesn't exist in a Socialist society - you would not be able to afford it.

Elite, naturally. Would I ever disagree with you?

Sounds to me that you and your family are living very well under capitalism. Not many of us can afford a H1. Before you advocate another economic system other than the system under which live, look at the benefits it has provided you. Your H1 would belong to everyone and no one. The way I understand it, private propery does not exist under socialism. I'll be over tomorrow.

Just a thought.

I, personally, believe in Communism. Communism is the only system that believes in the common good for all human beings all over the planet, and offers a solution. While Capitalism exploits greed, Communism aims to crush it. Where religion hopes to stop people in their dreams and ideas, Communism is there to help them along.

There has never been a Communist country, ever.

But there can be, and if we're lucky, godammit it, there will be. And it might even rule the world.

When has legislating human nature ever worked?

PS Your use of the word 'rule' is interestingly imperial.

RedMenace 03-21-07 09:45 PM

We've done it before, my friend. Democracy is a good example.

Human nature is, when you have power in your grasps, you grip it firmly, weild it harshly, and refuse to ever give it up.

Democracy says, "Hey, Pharaoh? King? Czar? Yeah, whatever, you're only gonna be here for like a few years, too bad."

Which has made life so much easier, but not easy enough.

So what you are saying is that when people give up their nature and legislate away all of man's evil we will all be free to be as destitute as the people you want you help?

RedMenace 03-21-07 10:40 PM

What? You can't legislate away man's evils, it doesn't work that way. What you do is set up a society where everyone cares for each other, everyone relies on their neighbors, and your neighbors rely on you.
