What would be interesting in that it would give us a clear progression of the war, would be to have different colour-coded markings indicating which year the sinkings took place in...Then you could really see how much smaller the "safe" hunting grounds got every year, and how quickly the losses started to pile up.

It already does this. If you play around with the layers in your Places folder, you can sort by year or ship type.
