It is not my intention to de-rail this thread. I will simply say that I need to go back and watch Hang'em High again.
Waterworld, like the majority of fiction that comes out of Hollywood, takes some single premise and disregards any controlling mechanisms or negative-feedback in response to that premise. Makes the story less complicated and look better on screen because it takes less background information -- Lord knows the Potter movies have taken this to an extreme.
The boat was pretty cool. I thought Dennis Hopper was great, although he does tend to play "comical" villians rather than "sinister" villians. I guess it removes the necessary "comedic sidekick" such that casting directors get a two-fer-one special. Urine is super-saturated, sea water is about 12-15%. Jeanne Triplehorn is hot and I would totally bang her. Liked the gasoline-level guy, hate the brain damage that would occur from such an occupation/perspective. Kevin Coster can't learn an english accent (although he probably did actually learn Sioux), and is no kick-boxer, but he does well enough in the "action role".
As long as the movie isn't taken literally, I give it a 8.5. The "Comedy and Dramatic Setting Oriented" Chick-Flick +1 modifier brings it up to 9.5.
