Agree.

I hate the auto rig for red.

When you are at 300 ft being depth charged, I don't think that night vision is as important as being able to see the keyboard or things in the control room.

Just my feeling. I only swithed on the red lights in SH1 when i was getting ready to do a battle surface or such.

Same with the engines.

I WANT A CALANDAR IN MY WARDROOM WITH SUNSET/SUNRISE/MOONSET/MOONRISE TIMES

the US boats, with the four diesels ought to be player controllable to put on or off line for charging/and or speed.

Red lighting was only used in the early part of the war. Eventually they went to red goggles for the topside crew and used white lights throughout the boat not just the engine rooms. So the question is, will SH4 use red lighting through the entire war? Ahh, the suspense :D

Oh, okay, I didn't know the boats rigged for red when going into attack even if it was noon...

What's the reason for doing that? I understand having red light at night to preserve your dark vision, what's the point of it during the day?

The red lights were used also for the crews quarters. Remember unless you're at battle stations all berthing compartments were red to allow off duty sailors some sleep. The other compartments were lighted by time of day. If you're not part of the topside watch, i.e. lookouts and officer of the deck, you never get to see outside. The only way to tell if it was day or night was to check the lights and see what color they were. Being in a darkened submarine, and surfacing into daylight never had a profound effect on your eye adjustment, you would have to have ripped them off once you got topside because it would effect your ability to see long range....
