GWX
Twice I've struck ships only to have them nose dive into the ocean floor leaving thier screws sticking out of the water. I had to Ram them both to get credit for the tonage.
Last night I hit a large merchant with a 2 fish salvo - got the "she's going down" message right after inpact, the ship NEVER sank... Still got credit, still showed the sunk ship icon on the map. Strange. |
Sometimes you dont get the SGD message but still the sinking credit
IIRC the ship has to be a certain depth before that message is triggered and ship is classed as sunk Thats why some of the larger warships sit on their ass on the bottom yet are not classed as sunk |

Hi all,
Sorry to play necromancy with an old thread, but I also didn't get credit for a kill even though I sank it in water over 1,000 meters deep & watched it go down through my scope. Any one have any ideas on what the problem could be? I'm using GWX & Sub Commander. Thanks, Tex |
I'v often wondered this myself. Did you actually see the ship go down? If visibility is to bad, drop to PD and let the sonar hear it sink. I think that this should allow for the credit.
If neither of these work, something else is afoot. edit: whups, you did see it go down, sorry for not paying close attention. |
Were there any aircraft? I put three fish into the side of a nelson class BB, took three hours to sink while i dodged 9 (yes 9!) DD escorts lol. Before she sank though the boys at the luftwaffe decided to ruin my day and went for her (they wont hit her, they never hit anything) BOOM direct hit on the superstructure, she went down stern first and I didn't get any credit for it.

No other forces were involved. The ship in question was of the Black Swan class and was sunk at 0930 hours in calm seas & clear skies.
This ship & 2 others of the same class were escorting a large convoy on its way to Gibraltar. This patrol is set in October of '41 and I just finished resupplying at Thalia. I caught the convoy after it had passed Portugal and turned South East headed for Gibraltar. Initially, I sank a merchant and one of the other Black Swans, but was unable to sink this one before it commenced its depth charge attack. It kept dropping charges - even though I had ordered silent running - until I shut down the engines & continued to dive. I eluded it finally by playing possum for 2 hours & diving to 210 meters. After 2 hours I was finally able to order slow ahead even though the 2nd Black Swan continued to circle above me - the 3rd escort ship had been damaged by forces unknown before I intercepted the convoy and was content to continue on with the merchants while the undamaged escort danced on my head. At 2 knots I slowly pulled away from the circling escort and was able surface to persicope depth & set up shots with my stern tubes from 2 klicks away. When I fired my first shot the escort presented me 90 degress port aspect and was running at 12 knots. The torpedo hit the target dead center & she came to a complete stop and started to list to port & aft. I fired a second torpedo to finish her off which hit to the left of the first shot. She sank almost immediately & I watched her go down through the scope. As soon as she went down, I surfaced the boat to catch up with the rest of the convoy. That is when I got tired so I saved & exited. |
Did you get the SGD message before you saved ?
If not then it wont count as a sunk ship Try not to save submerged or too close to enemy units Strange things happen Similary the original post - any updgrades on first patrol CAN lead to loss of sinkings Dont upgrade anything in first patrol Not sure if that applies to crew members who cost renown but I never do Not even a conning tower emblem |
