In the equally famous words of Pee-Wee Herman: "I know you are, but what am I?"

I could place 40 destroyers around Dunkirk but the player wouldnt get anywhere near the port
Then that would be a waste of scripting it
:hmm:
Tis a balance mate

There WILL be more DD after the update
:rotfl:
No French ones though as we dont have any

Certainly. I'm assuming the dates for sub availability is set via SH3 commander. I was in the Kiel Canal returning to base in my Type IIA. I'd been through here at 128X TC with the auto course plot about 5 times already. This time however I was cruising back home, then black screen of death - "Your sub has been destroyed by a collision".
Now I play DiD but that is crap. You might not ever get to command a sub again but your entire crew doesn't die when you run aground at 8kts. I quit the game but SH3 commander wouldn't let me reload this character. So I started the game without SH3C to load a saved game. After I did this I noticed I could select the IID. I did this and now in subsequent patrols (loaded with SH3C) I still have it but I can no longer select it in the u-boat screen at base.

I guess I really shouldn't have it but I've grown quite accustomed to the little sub now and BDU can have it back when they prise it out of my cold, dead hands.:arrgh!:

There weren't 40 but at one point I had seven or so British and Polish (?) destroyers circling around trying to find me. Once some of the convoys and taskforces start coming into port with all their escorts things do get really hairy.

EDIT - Here's a pic of Dunkirk Harbour I googled but I think this is shortly after the war.

Here's a pic from 1940. Looks like it's still under French control. EDIT AGAIN - Maybe not, are they German soldiers on the right?

I'm no expert on this event but I guess there were too many troops to be moved in too short of a time to be accommodated by this small harbour and therefore the beaches had to be used?

Great stuff! Looking forward to more of this sort of thing. The music is a hoot too! All you need is the strident news readers voiceover!

Oh man... you avatar is absolutely nothing compared to mine XO... :( And your one lasts for much shorter than this high-blue-guy... But what to do? Everyone has to go through it. And clean some toilets, too.

Some people said the last video I made (The Sinking of the H.M.S. Rodney) was like a propaganda film so, even though that wasn't originally my intention, I figured I may as well continue with that genre.

I highly recommend GWX users to drop by Dunkirk around May 29th for loads of traffic and some fantastic air attacks. All the tracers flying up looked great and the sounds were also really good. Only problem was that it turned my FPS down to about 5 when I used freecam, but otherwise it's cool. This isn't for the faint at heart. The water doesn't get any deeper than 30m so if you are discovered you will be dead.

Good luck!

I have added your movies to my website, hope it is okay with you.

Thanks for the compliment on my patrol reports. I haven't put up any for my GWX patrols yet as I'm just finishing patrol 3 (entering Kiel Canal), which I'll likely post and make a movie out of it. The first two patrols were nothing to speak of.

Starting to like GWX and I really like this forum that Neal has. I met Neal a long time ago when I put up my first website dealing with the Original Silent Hunter and he asked me to put it back up, so I did. I enjoy keeping the website up-to-date, especially with the movies that are being made, and my own patrols if they are worth posting. Too bad I lost my U-51 patrols, I really loved that sub and the patrols I was getting with it.

Keep up the good work on your movies. BTW, what was the music used in both?

I have a difficult time trying to "fit" appropriate music to my movies.

Rob.
