i will install vista, but not before one to two years. after patches and service packs.

also the required hardware could be cheaper than now.

fredbass 01-31-07 05:22 PM

From what I've read Vista really doesn't have a too many holes. But there is a service pack being created which will be released sometime this year. Remember, this version took 5 years to make and they used 5 million beta testers as well, so it should be in pretty good shape already.

The reason I'm waiting a while is so the hardware and software companies have some time to catch up to Vista, then I'll jump in.

Vista is a DRM nightmare. If a piece of sofware hasn't been approved by Bill and Company, it won't run on Vista. So, I believe most all of your freeware is now useless.

I won't touch Vista, not even with a 10 foot pole. I've got my "full blown" legal copy of XP on CD. And I can reformat any computer, I have to buy that's unlucky to come with Vista, and go back to XP. :D I'll keep on building my own computer instead of buying them prescrewed up. ;) I can do a fine job of screwing one up all by myself for less money. LOL

I may be wrong on this ( sure hope so :-? ) but I heard that if you needed to reformat Vista that you only had so many times and you would then have to repurchase it again.

Biggest thing about New "Store Bought" systems is they have SO MUCH crap
on them!

Kinda like buying a new Dodge Viper 12 cylinder with sand in 6 cylinders!!

No, there are no such general restrictions.

There may be problems for applications that write data (especially to non-standard locations) or are permissions based, but I am not aware of any blanket exceptions.

Indeed, SH3Cmdr works happily on Vista, Likewise all my software. :smug:

FWIW though, I'll be waiting until at least SP1 before I install it on my primary-use computer. ;)

This is nothing new is it?
It's just going to take a little time for the kinks to get ironed out.
The only option you have, and it's a couple of hours work for new pc owners who want to play SH3 with mods is to re format back to XP during this period of time and your good to go.Re formatting is not a big deal really, just a little time consuming but the XP disc is pretty user friendly.
I had some real problems with SH3 in the beginning.Lost a really good DVD burner which had to be replaced because of you know what...Had to buy a new copy of SH and along the way got a lot of help from the community to get up and running again.
Because of my problem which was a little different, I ended up having to re format, but the end result was that I learned from this bad experience and it's all behind me now.
Getting a new rig next week.Already I'm backing up everything on disc but the kitchen sink and most certainly will have to re format but I've gotten through the learning curve and hopefully the problems I had will now be a thing of the past.

You'd best check deeper, there are restrictions. There are many things that are not Vista compatable... certain antivirus programs are only a part of what can be restricted. That's why there is a compatability check with an inplace upgrade.

Also, here's info on upgrading if you take the plunge.

And this for those that build your own computers.

Plus the Piracy Issue .

And last of all. This might hurt a bit. ;)

Of course there are certain restrictions/limitations, but they are nowhere near as severe as your "If a piece of sofware hasn't been approved by Bill and Company, it won't run on Vista. So, I believe most all of your freeware is now useless." What you said is simply not correct, itīs far from the truth. There are tons of applications and games that work fine on Vista and that were not approved/certified by Microsoft. Some need to the updated, but thatīs nothing special, we had the same situation when people moved from Win98 to 2000/XP or even just from XP SP1 to SP2.

Download updates for StarForce Protection driver
This problem was caused by a compatibility issue between Windows Vista and this version of StarForce Protection driver. This program was created by StarForce Technologies.
An update is available that solves this problem.
Solution

http://wer.microsoft.com/Responses/i...ages/check.gif Get the StarForce Protection driver update from the StarForce Technologies website.

The starforce site says it is vista compatable, but the update doesn't seem to solve any of my problems.

The game won't load b/c of starforce.

The SF removal tool doesn't seem to help.

I'm at a total loss. I've loaded and reloaded SH3 a few times now.

Ugh. How depressing.
