I've done that probably a year or more ago. Even with some of the bug fixes, the stock game is so incredibly - empty. Are there even friendly's? That's gotta be so demoralizing to the crew when they don't see any friendly units. The odd friendly merchant just doesn't cut it. The only positive I can think of for stock SH3 is that it loads allot faster and the harbor framerates are more doable.:rotfl: But you know what? I don't think I could go back stock again. Sometimes I may feel like seeing what the game used to be like, but I can hardly make it past a patrol or two.

I've been playing SHIII with GW since the mod is out, and never went back to vanilla. I can't see a reason to do so.

AVGWarhawk 11-22-06 10:14 AM

I put the vanilla version away for over a year. I did not like the game that much until I stumbled upon the GW supermod...I have not stopped playing since and I'm quietly waiting on GWX. I would not go back to the arcade version since that is what shelved the game to begin with.

I've been playing stock since the time the game was out for about 6-8 months. Then I've discovered GW and never look back. Now with GWX approaching I finally think the game is how it should have been when it was first released.

No way. Ever since Beery put out the original Flotilla Fix mod I've been using something or other. Bordinstrumente, with it's realistic dials, Harbour Traffic, Airpower, sound mods, new ships and planes.

Even if all I could use was SH3 Commander I still wouldn't play without it. No vanilla for me, no sir!:nope:

Guys, i get the message by now. Im not going to waste my time on it. For some foolish reason i got the impression there were some people out there who did, because they hate the NYGM damage models in GW11a and NYGM. Judging by the reactions im guessing most just replied to the post title, and the subject itself is tantamount to making a post on religion. I get the hint.

I assume you mean GW and NYGM? WAC isn't considered a super mod?

btw, what does NYGM stand for?

Not Your Grand Mothers (IIRC - it's been awhile since it was used)

Jeeze it does seem like a rather obscure reference for a computer game. I mean I'm pretty sure my grandma wouldn't know what a computer is. She's a doll but the only thing she's read for the last 25 years is Star Magazine.

Its very serious stuff you know, whos not fat anymore, and who killed Princess Di, and how Angelina Jolie stole her baby from Africa with Marians while Madonna used a commando group from Venus.

??? The first part (the main .exe) is 535 KILObytes, as in roughly one half of one megabyte. The remaining four parts (the .bin files) are no larger than 170mb each.

LOL. I know the feeling. What i had in mind was, again, just fixing the the stuff that was broke. The idea being to leave the orginal "gamey" game intact.

I still play stock. Why... becuase I want to play the game the way the developers made it. But this is also why after playing one full career, I stopped playing it for almost 1 yr. It was boring... and with the bugs in the game, disappointing.

The bugs that really turned me off:

1) Schnorkel being detected as if the whole Uboat was above water.

2) The "random" (random must mean rain and high waves 90% of the time) weather where I can start a patrol to the coast of the USA and end it with the weather never changing.

3) The XXI being TOTALLY screwed up, with the batter recharge bug, schnorkel bug, radar being destroyed all the time bug, the Niebelung sonar torpedo control being screwed up.

4) The 2 extremes of the enemy DDs we face. Either they are totally incompetent and you can easily loose them, to the ones that are UBER DDs that can drop a single Depth Charge on top of your conning tower while you are submerged and running silent.

Those are the Top 4 in my mind.... I know there are many others. I know there are weather fixes, schnorkle fix, and DD fixes out there. But being as I was out of action on the forums for so long, I cant seem to find them or the ones I do find there seem to be multiple fixes/versions and I dont know which one is the best one.

But I would LOVE a VANILLA mod that attempts to collect all the BUG fixes without modifying the game play as a whole.

THe main reason I havent tried other big mods (like RUB) is I dont like mods that FORCE you to have to do TDC calcs (I do math all day at work..last thing I want to do at home), or that take away Radio contacts on your map. I understand why some like this for realism. But I play this game as part simulation and part GAME. If we really wanted 100% realism we would be lucky to bag 12,000 tons every other patrol.

I am eagerly awaiting the GWX mod as it seems to fix just about everything. Some of the things that change the vanilla version....Im not sure I will like. But if I dont find a way to fix this game, I fear I will stop playing it again. Im in my second career (Apr 1942) and already growing bored.

With that said..... what mod (or single mod combined with other tweaked files) would you guys reccomend that may fix my top four, and do you have links for all of them? I really woould like to try something different until GWX comes out (especially since I cant use my 2nd career and have to start over...might as well re-install fresh when GWX comes out).
