Patrol Boat - Australian Series shot by the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corperation), based on the trials of a patrol boat crew, The Boat that was used for the series is now moored at the Australian Marintime Museum.

Sea Patrol - A more moderen version done by Channel 9 - A new series is due out soon

DVDs of the old Patrol Boat did the rounds of my crew last year. Its the better of the two shows, some good old charry as hell action. Seeing the aircraft carrier Melbourne in action on the show just about brought a tear to my eye.

Can't wait for the second series of SP. Will be good to see the 'dales on screen. The current Melbourne (FFG 05) will make an appearance in season 2.

LOL Yes, I remember that one, I hope it comes out on DVD so I can get my kids interested in ships & boats!

Thanks for that, I've added it to the main list on the first page.

Does anybody remember the serials "Don Winslow of the Navy" and "Don Winslow
of the Coast Guard"??? They played at the theatre at 13 episodes each.
The navy one was first and ran in 1942. The coast guard one is better and ran
later. The stars were Don Terry and Walter Sande. I recently picked up DVD
copies of both. They really look OLD.... The ship I saw in the navy one was
an old 4 stacker DD.

A great show but a documentary rather than a drama series, I'll add that to my future list covering that, thanks, can't wait for the forthcoming game based on the show, looks great.

We have a UK equivalent to that show by the BBC called "Trawlermen" focussing on the fishing boats of Peterhead in Scotland .

JIM

Hi Jim, never saw them, but I plan to grab the DVDs quite soon, great to see these old classics re-emerging today.

Here's another one from the depths: The Everglades, about a policeman who patrols the swamp in one of those cool air boats.

And if we're including miniseries, it's best not to forget Longitude:

Thanks again Sailor Steve, I thought Longitude was an obscure but great miniseries, the sort of thing only the BBC would attempt.

Sailor Steve 03-31-08 05:46 PM

You're probably right, but I'm glad they did.

bookworm_020 04-01-08 02:29 AM

I got the DVD of Longitue and read the book (found in a theological library!)
