OFFLINE is a must so people wont be prevented from playing their purchased games. if I purchase software I want to be in control of it and I decide whenever I can run/play it, NOT THEM. HunterICX  :yep: :salute: :yep:  :yep: :salute:  :yep: :salute: :yep:  |

I will wait and see what the final product will be like and decide then. If it is online only then I won't buy it, simple as that. |

It's really not that bad of a system. The problem is people expecting all their wants to be catered to, but you will always have to give in to a few of the devs requirements if you want to game-on. It's as simple as that. Inevitably, curiousity and temptation take hold. Seeing those juicy screenshots, I know quite a few people who are bitching about the system will give in. |

I have no issue with the internet connection. I play Jutland with the DRM. Loads everytime, checks for updates and I play. Jutland will play without a connection to the net though. ROF is a must for me. However, it needs to be able to utilize two pieces of hardware I own....X52 stick and the TrackIR. Without these, all is lost concerning a flight sim for me. So, before the full version hits the markets I guess it will be a good time now to check on these two items.
Nice write up by SimHQ. EDIT: Quick check and the X52/TrackIR are Vista supported and for the 64 bit system. |
STEAM & ROF arent the same thing. STEAM requires internet connection when you install your game, after that you can disconnect the internet and it still works. Whereas ROF needs internet connection ALL THE TIME.

Hello,
well what can i say. I am somehow fascinated how anyone could spin this online issue into a favorable light. I will most probably buy it, but this new company policy is turning into an ugly direction. I have posted my comments where it belongs, anyone who is interested can read the thread here: http://riseofflight.com/Blogs/March-...spx#addComment Greetings, Catfish |
I will have to bypass this one. While I have no real beef with the "phone home" verification (as long as thats all its doing) - I don't want to play online. This basic requirement with no single player makes it a MMO flight sim. I can do without that. If it had a single player mode then it would go on my "buy" list.

Rise of Flight does require an online connection all the time. HOWEVER, it has a Campaign mode, a Single Player Mission mode, and a Multiplayer mode. It's not entirely multiplayer combat... And for future reference (as of now, that is), I posted a thread that contained SimHQ's review of the game along with some of their comments on setting it up. It discusses some pretty important things and also clarifies on some issues people have been having with the system: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=149341 |

Because maybe some people don't want to connect to the net each time they fire up a game.
When I play sometimes I just put the PC on and start. And I know that in this day and age most people have an internet connection but what if they don't and really like fightsims esp. WWI? I think the makers are going to shoot themselves in the foot with this. It all comes down at the end of teh day to choice. People want to be able to choose whether to be connected to the net or not. So I and a lot of other people will choose not to buy it. A shame really. It's the same with SF. A lot of people will not buy a game now that has SF in it. UBIsoft realised that so with SH4 went with something else. |

Ow its not their fault? it IS their fault for not allowing people to play it OFFLINE any god for saken game I have has an offline its a MUST its a BASIC REQUIREMENT for a game that has a Sinlge player and Campaign. Now another thing, IF they go bankrupt...their servers will be pulled down. then what? throw the game away? ow wait..they come up with a patch (if your lucky) so you can play it offline...so whats the fricking DEAL for not allowing it in the first place. also lots of people still have dial up modems...they have a good computer but live in a region where they don't have acces to cable/DSL they are taking a piss on them too you need at least smallband! its a nice attidue of a company that brings out a WW1 flightsim they are rare and yet they are ruling some people out by their behaviour and that just pisses me off.
