that  Same idea as AVG posted. RDP |
Thanks AVG. Are you useing RFB for ROW? I know it's a dumb question, but I thought RFB for ROW was to be installed after ROW! The same with RSRD for RFB. Now I'm really confused!
|
If you install ROW over RFB, you lose some of the operational changes to the subs (surface dive times), but the game still plays. Other parts of RFB stay intact.
If you install the RC1 version of RFB over ROW, you'll have the original pitch and roll values from the November ROW files, but you'll lose the additional pitch, roll, and draft changes added by Dave in December after RFB was released. Those will be rolled into the sub.sim files for the next RFB releae. There are very minor differences in the cfg files (snorkel depth, storm conditions), so you don't lose a lot by installing RFB first, but the numbers aren't quite as realistic. However, when the next RFB release is out, you will definitely want to install RFB after ROW. |
All I have to say is WOW! Thanks to everyone who has brought us ROW, especially Dave of course. But the latest update is phenomenal! What a trible to Dave. He's definately grinning up there. Kriller et al, Thank You!
Some tribute screenshots for you. These are amazing even with my ATI handicap! Simply the best screenshot I have ever taken in any sim, ever. http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/2290/shiv921ld5.jpg Preparing to dock at Dutch Harbor. Alaskan King Crab anyone? http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/7753/shiv9210tk8.jpg Shelter from the cold Alaskan breeze in the fairwater. I was told the Pacific was all sun and fun!!! http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/6273/shiv9211kn0.jpg Thanks again everyone!!! . |
Install order with RFB or RSRD or TM and ROW addon
#7 Sky and water controls is incorporated into the new ROW addon, so just enable it as the last thing in JSGME and it should work with every other mod on the list as it's only a graphics mod / addon which replaces some textures and the scene.dat and some env-files which controls how the colour of the sea and reflections should be at different conditions.
Install order: - ROW (#1 to #9) then RFB for ROW or TM and then RSRD (after TM) - Then the #10 ROW addon. (important!) The above install order makes sure you have the latest files from the mods RFB or RSDC or TM and the install of the ROW addon as the last mod makes sure you get the full eyecandy. |

You da man Kriller! Thats exactly what I wanted to know! Thanks so much to you and the others for continueing Dave's work. I know he's proud:yep: |
Having just returned from leave I was shocked to see Dave had lowered his periscope for the last time, I have enjoyed playing SH from the original through to SH4 and the work Dave "Leovampire" and others have put into the Mods have made this the most enjoyable version to date. Dave you will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

Swdw.....as you know....I'm looking forward to the next release:yep: |
Arrrgggh, colour me dumbass.... please correct me if I am wrong, but my order of mod installation is as follows (based on TM guidelines for installation) TM, RSRDC Then ROW followed by my other odds and sods such as Foo's sub skins and similar, is this now not correct? Should ROW go FIRST, then TM then RSRDC then others and finally the new ROW addon file?

As you can see in the above posts its quite difficult to arrange the mods while they are still in flux. I cannot post my JSGME list of enabled mods since I am at work. So from recollection I load in this order: TM1.7.5 + RSRDC + then any ROW file that does not over-write TM. Thats my choice...when you over write the sim may run....but who knows what the internals are doing....sound or skin mods tend to be neutral in this regard and you can add them at your leisure.. with RFB I run Release Candidate 1 for ROW, again I add the RSRDC + ROW files that do not over write RFB. At some point you have to make a hard decision and just go with something that fits your taste of play and go on patrol. Its easy to get into the MOD thing, I mean how can you say NO to Kapt Zur See (pardon my bad spelling) 4-bladed props. I just had to add that! Enjoy, its a great time to be into SH4! |
Yes, thanks Wilcke, it all SEEMS to be working, but after reading Krillers post I don't know if I am missing something as far as the graphical goodies goes. :arrgh!: Thats a good idea though, maybe somebody from the ROW Recovery Team could post a screenie of their JSGME set up to update the very old one on the first ROW page?

A related question: I am using NSM Light. Am I correct that I should continue to use the "ROW Light Zones Special Effects vs_3" and not ROW Special Effects with Stock Zones vs_5"? What in eye candy am I losing by staying with NSM and not enabling the Special effects version 5? (I only use RSRD, not TM or RFB) Thanks in advance for your patience in responding...and all your hard work on this final Add-On Mod.. |
Oh my..
I sail in for the first time in a very, very, very long time and this is what I stumble upon. Read through the whole thread and he sure seemed like a nice person and did a spectacular work with SH4. How very sad indeed  This bit of Laurence Binyon came to my mind while reading the posts.. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. <o |
Just got a chance to read my email and I saw this about Dave in the SubSim newsletter. Sorry to hear of his passing. He did a greatjob on his reflections mod. We'll all miss him. Condolences to his family and friends.
You did good Dave, smile down upon us once in awhile as we're thinking of you often. ~S!~ |
