Announcement

100_FalloftheRisingSun_Ultimate_v0.40_PublicBeta_E N is now patched and up on the Subsim download area. This is a single file, fully patched for bases.

If you have previously downloaded, you can continue to use the old version plus Propbeanie's patch, or you can unload your present FOTRSU and re-download. Then you will not need the patch.

Whichever way you choose your game will end up identical. Did I say I hate patches?:arrgh!:

  • Heck, I'm going to spend some time playing the game! Modders don't do that enough, you know. It really hurts the quality of the mods they make when they don't play the game any more.

I agree with this one hundred percent (100%) (sorry, old habit, the "repitition" thang)... Things like the flags and the way the sub takes off weren't things I had noticed anymore. The CA sinking like they'd been scuttled, that still bothered me, but I like big explosions too... I want to get started on other things right away, we really should take a break from it for a week or two, and see how full we can get the Suggestion Box... :03:

Thank you again Rockin Robbins for letting this rank amateur in the kitchen with a set of dull knives, and letting me sharpen them. (btw, where's the bandaids?) It took a bit to figure out that the symptom didn't point at the suspect. It was NOT the butler that did it! It was the maid!!! US_NavalBases.mis, which holds the bases' information versus the Campaign.cfg, which holds the key to the loading of the RGG that make up the campaign, and has nothing apparent to do with the US_NavalBases, other than loading the file... Now I know. Great thing about it, so does everybody else. We can make all the Silent Hunter users "modders" when we get finished! I gotta take a nap.

And so, taking a break, the Kraken, SS370 is at sea again in Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate v0.40. Yikes this is really exciting. I hope everybody realizes that I never expected to be in the position of mod team leader for ANYTHING, much less anything really important.

So now, as SH4 serenely runs in another window, I grab screenies and post them here as the game plays. No problems in Ubuntu Linux with multitasking. SH4, running in a window is completely unaffected by my posting outside the game as it plays.

Adding sub skins does not affect the game at all. I added the Kraken skin after I was at sea, not in port.

Similarly I have a problem with the bearing tool in FOTRSU, so I loaded up CapnScurvy's 3000 yard bearing tool for my game resolution. Why do I know it's 100% compatible? He did the FOTRSU optics. Using the tool I like takes up more computer resources, but is playing well.

Back to the game!

I would like all the CTDs (Crash Test Dummies) and anyone else that wants to try it, to try to run the Museum. It will take a while to load, even if you have a strong computer. If you're like me, and have a borderline set-up, you might even experience a CTD - Crash To Desktop in this case, if it runs out of memory. In that situation, it will seem like it's going to run the Museum, the screen goes to black, but you never get the little "Find'em chase'em" box, and eventually get a "Silent Hunter has encountered a problem..." kind of Windows error message. If you get the error message, make a note of what it is and let us know.

Let us know either way if it runs or not, what kind of computer you have (we can interpret brand / model numbers, or cpu etc.), how much RAM you have, whether you have the LAA (Large Address Aware) enabled on the SH4.exe, and what your video card is. Also, if you've altered you install in any way, like RR with his skin and bearing tool, let us know that too, please.

Also, if you have the time, scroll through the Museum frontwards and backwards, nation to nation, and let us know any issues you have with it, if any - either way. Thanks.

Has anyone tried to run a Uboat yet?

Any issues playing SH4 and FORTSU with the 1070 GTX, Navaigator? Also what resolution?

What brand of 1070 do you have?

ArditoCorsaro 12-01-16 05:26 PM

Recharging batteries for pigboats need too time. Something like 24 hours. Cant stay submerged.all day like pigboats did.
Lucky i have the sd radar. But the early version. Anycase i cant listen to hydrophones during daylight. Also for recharge 25 per cent need too hours. Patrol aleutian islands in first patrol of my xareer with pigboats, alaskan command.
2 japanese seaplanes spotted me, i immediatly dived to 150feets, and they started to drop bombs for 10 minutes. No damage. But i guess some enemy escorts follow me by now. In alaskan command campaign there s ever some armed trawler or destroyer around japanese bases.

Was a Cyberpower game build with a GeForce® GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5 (Pascal)[VR Ready] (Single Card). I was playing at 1080p, 1920 x 1080 (native) with no issues. Going to try out map patrols leaving different ports later tonight at 1080p, 3840 x 2160, HD (4.00x).

Jack

EDIT: Is there a list some of the WWII submarines as they came into service. I get confused on which boats are "better" as they progress.

Thanks for the info, Jack. :salute:

Also dive times i guess are too short for s class: crush dive in 20 seconds. For a ww1 fashoned boat. At least early war

As requested, I tried to run the muesum on my rig, but the little engine couldn't make it up the hill. :haha:
After the black screen, a dialog box came up that said,
Silent Hunter IV
Windows can check online for a solution to the program.

Homeport and friendly bases

I downloaded and installed the '232_NavalBasesTake2a.7z' that Propbeanie posted in #2851. Started a new career and it worked! All the bases were on the navigation map. I was able to end the patrol and transfer to another base! I also read the post of RR (#2866). As soon as this career ends, which means that my sub is sunk, I'll download the new '100 Fall of the Rising Sun Ultimate'.
Thanks Rockin Robin for your quick response.

The problem with not being able to hear any sounds at the sonar station except my engine or torpedoes continued in the first patrol. Encounter a small cargo ship visually, checked on sonar. No sound, ship was within 9000 yards. When the sonar operator heard the ship, I was able to 'ping' the ship with active sonar with the bearing given.

On the second patrol, I was able to hear a sound contact at the sonar station. Location was 7* 43'N 151* 26"E on 11Jan42 at 20:52 hrs. The weather conditions were partial cloudy with no rain or fog. Wind speed was 3 meters per second, direction was 27. The porpoise submarine was on the surface with a speed of 4 knots. Went to periscope depth, contact still could be heard at speed of 2 knots. Loving this mod! :Kaleun_Thumbs_Up:

Larry

OK Larry, you computer is only a bit stronger than what I'm on here, with an E4400 at 2.0G and 2G of ram. I've got an old ATI AGP video card in mine, so that's my weak link. You've got a much stronger vid card than mine, and can probably run the game OK, correct?

The LAA won't do a thing for you, since you don't have over 3gig of ram anyway. In fact, it might cause the game to crash. Also, you'd need to have a 64-bit computer OS.

Along those same lines, the Razer Cortex might also be more of a hindrance than a help. I found that with my dual-core that it ran the museum (until v30) just fine without it, and trying it now does not help. It did take the dual-core quite a good bit of time to load the Museum before though. The difference between the v29 and v30 (and now the v40) is that there's a few more ships trying to load. We got some of them to work.

You could try to run your Museum without the Razer Cortex and see if it does run (but don't count on it). Let us know if you do try though please. Keep on "testing"... :03:

Sniper450 12-01-16 09:49 PM

could not run the museum. Had the same message as Larrywb57. I have a intel core i5-4300U cup @ 1.90ghz 2.50ghz and 8 gm ram....I may add I have no clue what any of that means either lol...but the game works great otherwise so far.
