If it's way above 50% then that would be a valid justification for changing the sudden death rule imo.

Games should be won by superior performance, not by a lucky toss of a coin.

So you are saying only offense can be considered as performance? ;)

Wait, there's an equal amount of risk in kicking 50yd FGs in OT, if you miss, the other team gets the ball with good field position.

If you consider the 33 yard line good field position, then you have a point. Of course, if you have a good defense, then the 33 isn't such great field position. There's always a downside to every approach.

Are you saying the D won't have an excuse when the superlegs of tomorrow are able to kick it between the uprights regularly from 75 yards away? :p

Same thing happened on NFL Today on CBS ... It was the sunday morning show the day after the Charger game. Most of the host football experts were in awe that Manning and the Colts could lose a game to a lowly team like the Chargers.

If the Colts had of won in OT they would not have even brought up the subject.

Manning winner of MVP of 2008 season, seven times elected to the pro bowl loses the big one, because of the Chargers winning the coin toss ... BS

They lost period and the running game of the Chargers and the special teams punting the ball behind the ten yard line several times helped a lot.

The Chargers won and may very well go on to win it all, because they are a good team. They've been in a playoff mood for the last four games of the season.

70% of the time the team that wins the coin toss loses the game ... shocked? Me too, but thats what they said on NFL Today sunday morning.

Keep it the way it is ... defense counts not lucky.

Never, EVER, believe what you hear from sportcasters... http://www.maa.org/mathland/mathtrek_11_08_04.html

That 70% statistic is unbelievably incorrect. You sure you heard it right???

Digital_Trucker 01-07-09 09:08 AM

Perhaps 70% of this year or any one particular year, but looking at one year isn't statistically accurate either.

Well, from 2000 - 2007 60% of the winners of the coin toss in OT won the game. I don't know '08 stats, but just accounting for the games I've personally watched, 70% would be off the charts.

Hey!hey! hey!

No math or statistics allowed in the thread. Some of us have allergies to math!

maybe a little geometry, but no statistics!

Unless the Steelers self destruct, I'd say the Chargers are done. Tenn and Baltimore, your guess is as good as mine. I thin Carolina runs all over AZ. And the Philly game???
