Dave was a class act to say the least. He will be sorely missed.

Before anyone accuses me of hijacking this thread for the purpose of promoting my mod, please stop and think for a minute that I've NEVER done that before, and in fact, went out of my way NOT to even mention it in any thread but it's own, except when someone else referred to it, in solving a problem that they had. I felt I had to do something to show my appreciation for him, so I dedicated the application to him. If it weren't for his encouragement, I probably would've given up on it a long time ago. I miss him as a fellow modder and an all-around good guy. I guess Dave was recruited for that big Dev Team in the sky...

That being said...

Damage Control 1.1 - LeoVampire Edition is available for download. You may click on my sig to get to the original thread.

It started as a private release for me so I could remember him every time I played SH4, but I thought it would be nice if I released it to the public so they could have it too, if they wanted.

I post this with the ultimate respect for Dave and all the people to whom he meant something special to. He was certainly one of the best people I've run across in a long time.

Bill

Its an interesting feeling to have to point out that its a real photo, not an in-game sho. Yes, Dave, your work is that good!

WOW! You are right. Had you posted that pic in a screencapture contest, it might or might not have won, but it is highly probable that no one would have questioned its authenticity as a ROW screencapture! ROW is just that good! The pic deserves to be shown here directly [hope you don't object...:) ]

Why doesn't my ROW look this good? Oh yeah, I have a crappy Radeon 3870.

Do you know which ones? Maybe I won't need all the ROW files if there's ROW effects already in the game.

Nice Bill, did the same with S3D which I just released. I put in a small screenshot as well. I probably will remove the screenshot in a couple of weeks (because not all the users may know Dave and may feel ackward) and make that screenshot come back every year for one week at 08-01.

From the Screenshot's thread, would have never been possible without Dave, I'll end the night with this one.

I wish I had a Nvidia card but I have Ati. The halo effect is missing but still does some justice for ROW (with nvidia it would of been perfect).

The strangest thing happened this morning.
I am on a small training base on the Potomac River in VA. This morning we did a two mile run around the base and when we came up to the river there was an absolutely jawdropping sunrise. A few of the guys running, who have no idea what SHIV is, began to say "Wow, whoever programed that sunrise is great" "got the colors just right".

I was sucking wind at that point in the run but it brought a smile to my face.

Like many here I was just at a loss of words not really knowing what else to say. Then I saw this, was this really Dave's last post at Subsim? http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...=127591&page=2
It was posted Christmas morning. I think that says enough.

I have an ATi card too (the X1650 Pro), and I've found a way to "trick" the card to show halo and glare, albeit for a few seconds. Pause the game in Navigation Map view, Alt-Tab to Windoze and then back to the game, unpause and go to exterior view. If you want to capture a particular screenshot, make sure to set up the camera before doing all this, and when you're back to exterior view take the screenshot immediately.

Another one for ya, Dave:

Yep. ROW stands for Reflections On The World now. :D

TDK1044 01-11-08 06:58 AM

Although I had originally thought about posting a poll for choosing the plaque prose, I honestly don't think we'll get a more fitting tribute than this excellent contribution:

"He Gave So Much To So Many
Now He Has Gone
Grieve Not, Fellow Captains
His Reflection Will Live On"

I think it really sums up Dave and our respect for him. So unless you guys have an objection, I'll suggest to Neal that this is what we'll go with.

Thanks,

Terry
