Its maybe me that's a bit annoyed at having my career ended but I can tell you this, the way I'm feeling at the moment if you fotrs modders were here right now you'd all be needing medical attention. :D

One thing of note here is that this mod is a work in progress, the ship files and campaign files plus the sensors have had much work done on them. The difficult AI is known about and many discussions have been had. When all is said and done there will an Ai from the most difficult to lowest of the low. So bear with us, there are still many things to be done. :D

... ~and~, being a Crash Test Dummy (CTD) like me, you've met the same demise I have probably two dozen times or more now... believe it or not, but this is toned down compared to what it was initially... You used to get into empire waters and have DD DE and all manner of ill-willed IJN vessels and vehicles chasing you, and you might never get a shot off before "dying"... Wait'll you find one of those airplanes that neither the radar operator nor your deck watch saw, put a 250 pounder down your periscope while you're doing flank and ziggiing and zag-BOOM!!! blub blub blub...

Big question though Moonlight sir: What was your assignment on this particular patrol? You were in a Balao, but what is - er, was - your home port? Where abouts were you on the map? Just an approximation is probably good enough. The more accurate the date and location, the better. What were you attacking, or did you get a chance to? In other words, what vessels besides the DD / DE that got you? All that will help ID the ships, and therefore the sensors in use.

As a little side note, a US congressman, sometime in June 1943 at a press conference divulged that our submarines were getting under the IJN's ash can attacks...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_J._May

However, you're in February, that happened in June, so it'd be July before they started going deeper than 125 foot, and even then, they didn't think a submarine was capable of getting below 300 foot... 'Course, the Nazis were their ally, so I don't know why they'd think that... Anyway, to quote "No, they should not be able to get you in a deep Balao, unless you were noisy, and even then, it'd be a stretch..." end of quote.

As cdrsubron7 says though, this is a WIP, and we'll look into it. You're the first one to go that way. I'm usually gone before I get a chance at a Balao... :03:

Been there, done that. Bought the T-shirt. I'm working on settings and I also think that tweaking the difficulty down in the core mod is called for. Stand by. I'll probably come out with patches at first to look for opinions and tweak from there before we burn it into the main mod.

Fear not! We have this monster virtually under control. We think. We hope. That's what we say anyway...

I think the mission was to Patrol the Kyushu area, (not definite about that though) my home port was Midway and I was North\North East of Iwo Jima.
When I attacked the Task Force the escorts were at least 3nm away, I went deep the moment the last torpedo left the sub. I was over 400ft deep when the 1st destroyer came into range and started pinging away, I didn't survive the 2nd one, oh well, I'll wait for these new sensor files before I start a new career.

Please bear in mind you are still testing the Alpha- which is going to be much more difficult than the final release, at least until we straighten it out

Also please bear in mind - none of us here are actually the original FOTRS modders
We have taken an abandoned mod and tried to update it

Please bear in mind we are tweaking and modifying the original FOTRS files
We did not make the files ourselves

I think the original FOTRS crew ramped up the difficulty majorly to make multiplayer more interesting

We are working with what the original FOTRS crew gave us

HAving said that -

Already many of the testers have noted this and fixes are in the works

Also - somebody is working on optional plugins so you can chose whatever difficulty level you want

So Please -
Before you come round to my place and break my legs - please remember

1 - this is a work in progress
2 - based upon something that was already difficult
3 - they then upped the difficulty level
4 - we are looking at the sensors, campaign files etc etc etc
5 - to bring it down to a more sane level of difficulty
6 - with optional plugins so people can chose how difficult they want it to be

And hopefully end up with something everyone will want to play, with optional files for each difficultly level

Just my 2 cents

PS
This is a friendly message regarding medical attention :D
I hope it is taken as such :03:

That should get me into the neighborhood pretty closely, and if not, can't be more than a short walk from there... anyway, you didn't happen to use external camera and actually see which DD came and got you by chance? It was ~really~ difficult for me to use it when I first started on this, and I also went to automatic targeting, just to speed things along. I think I'm spoiled now by all that... How did you ID it as a "Task Force"? visual, radar? The first one got you... like maybe his 2nd pass then?...

Reason I ask? I was approaching a Task Force a few weeks ago, quite a bit South of Tokyo, below the thermal at about 260, Silent Running, 1.5 knots... Yes, we'd gone potty before we started, no we had not flushed, just in case it made too much noise... ahem. Anyway, I'm just creeping along, figuring I'm in good, it's gonna be tough getting out though. Sonar guy keeps going "warship, bearing 46, closing. First medium range, then close range... hmmm... surely not...

Then I hear really LOUD pings... then Boom - Boom - Boom! One right after the other right on top of the boat... what thuh? water leaking everywhere... he turns and is back on top of me within 5 minutes... We only heard two Booms! the 2nd time, 'cause the 2nd one is what killed us. Mind you, I was still like 8200-8600 away from the main TF body, not even thinking of coming back up for a look-see and shoot. So, it was definitely "Superman" at the helm on that DD. No planes saw us, no periscope after about 12500, just their "skill"... :03: Watch out for the Troop Transports too!

The above picture is of a Big Old Split Merchant I sank in the South China Sea. Anybody notice anything wrong with this picture? :hmmm:

Looks to be running a little "light", shall we say? Like, so light that the screw is out of the water even... Hmmm.

The Task Force spawned on the navmap and I was right in its path, it was virtually pitch black by the time it came into periscope view, after torpedoing the carrier it was a case of go deep and try and avoid those pesky DDs.
I went to external view when I saw three sonar lines decreasing the distance to my boat as though they'd got rocket engines in them, (they were probably only doing about 30 knots) they knew exactly where to look as well even though I'd turned 90 starboard and was about 3 or 4 hundred yards from my firing point.
I've no idea what type they were, 1 DD is as dangerous as another me thinks, the damned things knew exactly what they were doing, they were coming in to attack from 3 different directions and they were pinging away like madmen just to let me know that it was Goodnight Vienna time.
I've not seen that type of behaviour from the DDs before, it was probably my bad luck for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. :yep:

Yup, I think its riding high, and the flags blowing one way and the smokes blowing another as well.

What have I been doing instead of playing v0.30? I've been compiling all Trigger Maru changes, even from Ducimus' Flavored to Taste mod that preceded Trigger Maru. I don't even think Ducimus had a single record of all these changes and in about 10 seconds you'll have this too. It will be immense help in adjusting AI levels in FOTRS Ultimate base mod.

Now I better look at 0.30 to see if the alarms are sufficient to require another cauldron run......

Okay I'm running v0.30 right now and just looked at the entire Japanese roster, including planes in the Museum. Works great! Everything quick, smooth and really impressive-looking. Big Old Split Merchant floated correctly in the Museum:

Heck, time to start a career and see what's up! AI research on hold for awhile! I'm going to have some fun.

You are correct, the Museum run fines. The Big Old Split Merchant looked fine in the Museum, but not running in Career Mode. :hmmm:
