Now all I need is a monitor the size of a bay window...
Hey DT, I'll post a shot of SH4 on my 52" plasma soon as I can get the appropriate cable to connect to it...

Thanks for the comments, the mod is going into a alpha state now, so a beta release will be released soon(tm) ;), still a little more work to do, we are working on improving the shell explosions, but Nisgeis has some troubles with it :hmm:

Corotio is a new member of the team and is trying to improve on the nav-map (hint) and medals, it's he seafloor mod that I used for PE2.

Welcome to the ROW PE 2 team Corotio and Nisgeis and Dr. Beast !

Thank you! If Kriller2 accepts some of the dds files I have made for the interior, the sailors will have sweat dreams as well... :rotfl:

@ Kriller2: PM with dl link is sent!

Here are some pics from the beta. By the way, I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but when I use the camera that comes with ROW/PE it affects my frame rate. I replaced it with another free-look type of camera and my frame rate is unaffected. Odd. This has been the case since Leo started including camera mods in ROW.

Anyway, this is the first time I've tested an update to ROW or PE (since it first came out) when the difference was so dramatic. The clouds and sky in general are fantastic. I have yet to encounter stormy weather since testing, but here are some shots from the morning and early evening with moderate winds. They are kind of big so I only included links. And trust me, just screenshots can't do the new sky justice. Great work Kriller. I wish I didn't have to work tomorrow so I could test some more tonight.

You guys are making me drool... and with the new beta driver from nVidia, I got my frame rates back up to 40 using PE2 AND still in SLI mode - last driver didn't like SLI very much.

After this update, I hope you guys take a little rest and sink some ships. You need to enjoy your handy work for a few days. :know:

Is that the partly cloudy sky or overcast? If it is partly cloudy, any chance those clouds could be thinned out a bit? Looks more like a mostly cloudy sky.

SH4 can't handle both cloudy skys and partly cloudy skys, there is a limit in the engine for only three types of skys: no clouds, cloudy and storm / rain.

If you are lucky and not that's not very often SH4 makes a transition between the cloudy and non cloudy skyes and you will get partly cloudy conditions, but only for a very short time.

I have made a shader for partly cloudy skys which work good, but then you would never get fully cloudy skyes :damn: Seeadler (first and very good modder) had the same problem Quote from Seeadler:

For me the cloud/weather rendering engine in SH2/DC is simple more flexible and better. The old Janus-engine supported more than just two cloud textures. It uses for each cloud formations (Cirrus, Cumulus, etc.) 5-6 TGA's , a similar concept as the MS Flight Simulator.

These textures could be combined for a mission into complex weather fronts via a simple script code. There ware weather mods available, which let in the course of the mission two weather fronts collide. You are sailed still in the sun and saw already the bad weather on the horizon, or saw it raise over the mountains in the landscape, it all looked fantastic and realistic.

This approach would have been great if it were used with today's shader technology in SH4 instead of these unrealistic and to quickly morphing clouds in the game, even the clouds rendering in SH3 looks better to me.

I don't wish to imagine what modder would create today with such a flexible weather system.

Good news for ATI users!

Today I found out a way to make a fake halo and a sun without the ugly disc, it's not perfect but better than before?

Thats to bad...but its good to know the limitations of the engine..it prevents :damn:

on an aside, what would be ideal is a weather engine like in the FSX series, with downloadable weather plus generation of weather. One of the greatest factors while on patrol aside from ASW threat, machinery issues, weapons issues is the weather.:sunny:

What if's are always interesting but not realistic...or practical for that matter. Back to patrolling.

Any way you'd release the shader for partly cloudy sky as an option? Would the storm/rain clouds still have 100% coverage when using it?
