IIRC Simo Häyhä didn't use a scope, all his sniper kills were with Iron Sights.

Explanation being that the few centimeters more you had to raise your head to look through the scope was enough for a good sniper to put a bullet in your head. Which he did to a number of soviet snipers, longest kill of them being giver or take 400 meters. Extraordinary shooter. :salute:

Also the scope can fog up or reflect sunlight, either which way resulting in self-death.

Other clever moves included putting snow in his mouth to prevent warm breath condensing into steam and compacting snow in front of him so the shot would not disturb it and betray his position.
