Because the tweaked FM can be used on an online server.

I know that but then you have a server that only uses the AAA UI

My understanding is that the host server can check and they can avoid cheating.

Thing is if the AAA team make the changes and they become the defacto mod I can't see the problem. If people were going to cheat they would/do by now.

It does beg the question, why make a plane flyable when it's FM is atrocious for human control.

Not strictly true. As far as I know CRT=2 only checks whether the .class-files(java code) have been modified, so for example anything graphics related that doesn't touch the .class-files goes unnoticed. Want to remove the cockpit completely, ie. fly as "open cockpit" on any server? No problem, CRT=2 won't catch that. Want to give every other aircraft a fluorescent red skin? No problem, CRT=2 won't catch that either, etc...

I don't know which category FMs belong to, but my guess is they are catched by CRT=2.

I think they have it wrong and are limiting the scope of IL-2...oh well.

Dowly 02-24-09 05:03 AM

Yup, FM's are AFAIK spotted by the file check. The real problem is the servers that use modpacks, those need to have the file check disabled and anyone can modify their plane's FM and hop into the server. That's why AAA wants to keep FM editing out of their forums.

AAA advertises that it's possible to run a UI1.1 & 4.09b1m server with CRT=2 enabled. How this is implemented I do not know.

:hmmm: Perhaps if its server sided, it could be that the File check compares that file with the one that's been put up on the Server.

What about the mod that lets you look around after you have bailed out or are dead?

XabbaRus 03-02-09 05:32 AM

It looks like the OOF mod will be here soon. A whole bunch of WWI planes have turned up. I wonder if this could put a dent in OFF? Seems the IL-2 engine is more suited to these.

Dowly 03-02-09 06:26 AM

Still think it just takes away valuable resources/modders from the WWII modding. :shifty:

XabbaRus 03-02-09 07:24 AM

Well that is true.

The Lanc is taking too long and if you ask you get shot down.

joea 03-02-09 02:15 PM

I am glad I quit online playing frankly. :shifty:

yea, only time I play online with the subsim guys. (only time I play online actualy.):yep:

You never know what a servers attitude is like.

Oh no need to rehash the wars that were fought at the Ubi fourms over the issue. Never took part in them as I assumed most folks were on my side as you can see here: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/t...8411068116/p/1

Then some of the mods over there opened the door to discussion and many of those who said "never no way" jumped the fence. Whatever, everyone can do what you want.

I feel foolish for defending Oleg and Il-2 a few years ago form certain modders here who trashed it just cause they couldn't impose "their" vision of WWII. One in particular could not back up his criticisms with sources (unlike the deck gun debate :O: ) and in that situation, I'll believe the fellow (Oleg) with the aeronautical engineering degree. :03: Also the sim was not made for modding unlike Silent Hunter - so don't think I am against modding - and there was no permission given for it. Again, the devs in Silent Hunter helped the modders out and made the structure open for modding.

I am glad BoB will be open for it, but only a minority of mods will be good (we were spoiled for SHIII and IV really) based on my experience with MSFS, so I'll most likely stick with the better approved mods or "official" 3rd party stuff.

Anyway don't take it as an attack if you like the mods that's fine, just didn't like how it went down that's all.
