SHHHH! You'll give away my secret base which Churchill is yet to find. I keep the local's in line by not making Bernard stay ashore ( It was his Home town before the war, but he was kicked out due to incompantice)

Any landing you can walk away from, is a good one.

Sailor Steve 07-25-06 11:03 AM

Ummm...I don't think anybody's gonna walk away from that one.

stabiz 07-25-06 11:24 AM

The thing is, it has already landed! :rotfl:

Sailor Steve 07-25-06 11:25 AM

Oh, he's on the ground? I couldn't tell. At that angle he should have at least be a pile of wrecked metal, if not exploded.

stabiz 07-25-06 01:20 PM

Yeah, its just off Scapa, and I saw something glowing in the hills.

I remember seeing photos of a sunderland that had crash landed at a fighter airbase. It had received damage to the hull of the aircraft and therefore couldn't land on water. The pilot ordered the crew to bail before landing (some stayed as one ot the crew was hurt) The pilot landed the aircraft on the grass verge next to the main runway.:o

He left a 5 1/2 inch wide track 500 yards or so long. The aircraft stayed in one piece and all walked away from the landing. I reckon the pilot didn't have to buy drinks that night! I believe he was awarded a DFC for the landing.

The aircraft was removed and and repaird and was later placed back in service.

stabiz 07-25-06 06:01 PM

 He must have felt good when he strolled away!

Sailor Steve 07-26-06 10:52 AM

I guess so!

bookworm_020 07-26-06 06:32 PM

I haave some photos in my rather lage book collection of the aftermarth' I'll have to see if I can find and scan them for you.:yep:

I wonder what the fighter boys thought of that pilot, I bet they tried to get that pilot into fighter command
