*Runs to Oberon*
"I have something to tell you. Last night I got up to get some coffee because I could not get any sleep and something weird happened. It was quite faint so I put my ear to the hull in hopes to hear it better. It was definitely propellers! But they did not sound like those on a rescue sub, at least none of ours, maybe a surface vessel or some other sub I could not tell." |
*Overhears Nokia*
"Aye. I heard them too. Couldn't tell you from what vessel they were from though." |
*Oberon ponders and then nods.*
"I didn't hear them...but I did find something in the printer in the sonar room, and this boats sonarman is in the brig..." *He strokes his chin, now getting bristled with stubble.* "Raptor...I think that a meeting in the bar room might be an idea, so that we can all talk about the current situation and any thing we might have heard, such as those propellors, or found, such as this printout." |
*Jimbuna enters the room*
"If you've got the sonar to work why not send out intermittent pings...especially if you hear propellor sounds overhead?" "It was probably a merchantman anyway...a search vessel would have been sending active soundings to try and pinpoint us" |
*Oberon looks a bit sheepish*
"Frankly Jim, I haven't got a clue how to work it. I just hit a few keys and found the printout sitting in the queued items tray. I'd be just as likely to send out dimensions on playmate of the month as send out a ping." |
"But is there anyway to attract their attention?"
|
*Oberon thinks for a moment.*
"We could bang on the hull...but...think about it..." *He lowers his voice and looks around.* "Do we REALLY want to draw more attention and perhaps more monsters, towards us?" |
"I'm worried about the active sonar, though. Given the battery condition, we might not have the juice to do it.
If we do...what frequency were those pings? If they were high-frequency, that means it was close. Low-freq, less likely. We're deep in the SOFAR channel here, and low-freq sonar can travel almost around the globe... What can it be? Do we have any sonarmen on board? I only have minimal training in this sort of thing..." |
*Oberon sighs again.*
"The Thanatus's sonar man is in the brig. I don't know about any of the civilian crew though...this is one of the reasons I'd like us to hold a meeting so we can sort out who knows what." |
"Why does it have to be a monster? Couldn't it be a simple case of a deranged and deformed collection of retards....a throwback from some top secret experiment? Some transformation that only takes place in a darkened environment?"
"Get everyone in the same room overnight....rig a small light so everyone is visible...then I'll be happy to depend on my little friend" *Taps on the 9mm Browning under his tunic* |
"Sirs, I have a suggestion. Because the mob mania has died down a little, can we ask Raptor1 to take Baggygreen out of the brig, for now? He might know something, it's his sonar suite after all. Besides...how much food is in there anyway?"
|
*rummages through the papers in the captain's drawers, before noticing a strange tome lying on the floor, partly obscured by a heap of papers*
What's this... *picks it up. it is a heavy book, with a strange inscription on it's cover. Flaps through the pages and sees that it is full of strange markings and texts, describing strange rituals, monsters and black magic. the book appears quite worn and used* *runs to the bar, places the book down upon the counter* Maybe you people would like to take a look at what the Admiral has been reading... |
"Hey, Call of Cthulhu! Who's got the percentage dice?":haha:
|
*poking my head into the room.
"I overheard the idea of a meeting - and I concur. I don't like being partially responsible for the death of a fellow human, but we are sitting in a precarious place. If we want to all work together, we better start somewhere. As for why its a monster - unless you seem to think that Roman was just some freak of nature by mere coincidence, its safe to say that there are more than just humans on this boat. Also the way some have died have been due to injuries no human could create. As a scientist, I deal only in cold facts, as hard as that is. There IS at least one "something inhuman" among us, and I suggest we find it or them and remove them from the equation - so that we have a chance at survival." |
Quiet, Mr. SandyCaesar, this isn't the time to be playing role-playing games...
|
*Oberon takes a look at the book.*
"This is dark magic...dark indeed...perhaps he was a follower of the beast which devoured Romans soul..." *He pulls out the print-out from his pocket.* "Let me tell you the two things I know, firstly, AVSM, rest his soul, was a guardian, a man who protects others from attacks by fierce beasts, it is regrettable that he lost his life in his line of duty, however a guardian protects another, and cannot protect himself." *He takes the print-out and pins it up on the notice-board.* http://www.b3tards.com/u/57a418c694bc7c6296b3/bed.jpg "This is what I found in the printer in the sonar room...I do not understand what it means...to me it looks like a piece of modern art, but perhaps one of our civilian scientists would be able to understand it better than I." *Oberon turns and puts both hands down on a table.* "Now...who else has information?" |
*looks at the printout*
Could this be a sort of...sonar map of the landscape around us? I know that makes no sense, but sense stopped being important in the last few days *pauses for a few seconds* ...Does anybody know the location we were in before the explosions started? |
"Baggygreen had a copy of that in his belongings aswell.
It appears to be a sonar map of the area where we've landed. I'm guessing that the black spot is the Thanatus but as for the surrounding shapes, I've no idea. They seem too regular to be natural to me though. Also there appears to be some kind of conspiracy onboard as well. They call themselves the 'Investigation' and appear to have a number of people onboard involved. They claim that they 'are on the human side' but they also claim that should someone go against them, they have sufficient clout to have that person lynched." |
"Looks like paranoia is beginning to set in....nice one. Why doesn't everybody just abstain at every vote, then we can all die together due to lack of air or starvation"
*Bangs down his emptied cup of bug juice and leaves the room* |

"Well what do you suggest then? That we continue killing innocent people? And you seem a bit too bloodthirsty for my taste, seems you want us to kill someone but . If it is so then tell us who we should murder. Now understand this, this is nothing personal and I'm really not trying to make you my enemy but if we keep killing innocent people we we'll just die twice as fast." |
