Lol yeah. Rebuilt the craft, added a orbital insertion/circulatization stage.
easily landed and return from minmus. Of course, I'm using a pseudo-free return trajectory on the way back, so I cant control (easily) where I land. I'm just switching back to Kerbin SOI and lowering my Pe to about 50 km, reduces the amount of dv I need to burn to return. Once they add heat damage to the reentry sequence, that won't work so well. Entering the atmo nearly vertical at 4.5km/s isn't very healthy. |
It works if using deadly reentry mod for example. you just set your reentry point a bit higher up before the real heating begins. It may take a few passes, but you will eventually get trapped in the atmosphere (unless you are coming in at extreme speeds where you will get flung out of orbit). Right now aerobraking doesn't really work as the aerodynamics simulation is extremely primitive.
As for free return, if using navigation nodes, you can actually be super precise (particularly with mods that let you tweak the settings manually), if you know how to use and read them (the display can be very confusing at first). |

Yeah.... docking with emphasis, that's it.
Ok so I had a multiple segment space station in orbit and I was slowly adding parts to it. Went to show a friend the space station, and I realized I couldn't find it. How does one misplace a space station?? Well apparently the Kraken got a hold of it and sent it on an escape trajectory out of the solar system. :-? So I start to rebuild it. Main section goes up in a nice parking orbit of 100k. I launch the second and third segments, which includes the crew return vehicle. I'm getting fairly good at manual rendevous, but I use Mechjeb to get me close, and HydroJeb to line up and sometimes dock, if it gets twitchy I go in manually. So I'm on a nice rendevous path towards the station, actually..... too nice. And too fast. Before I can adjust my velocity, WHAM!.... I docked with emphasis. So I start over again, first module up. Made a small tweak to the second module, so I have to do a test launch so MJ can learn the new LPA. Just as it gets to Ap, WHAM!..... Docked with station with emphasis, again. That's a million to one shot I'll never reproduce. Finally, I get the thing in the air again. Pushing 1000 parts, so the lag is horrendous when trying to dock interplanetary craft. Top module is a "milkcow" for refueling said craft. Bottom is crew service module. The cleaner nodes are a science module mod. AS I just scrubbed most of my missions in .20, partly from perfecting my mod soup, I think I'll take a look. Then have to reinvent my modsoup.

Got this 3 days ago.
I am in awe that this is an Alpha, it is better than most finished games. I really suck at it, the only solace I get is the look of pure glee on Jebadiah Kermins face, despite the sheer terror of his crewmates, as I fall into the ground after a failed launch. Jeb Kermin is epic, and makes this game playable. I keep overshooting the Mun. Made it to Eve though, by luck... Anyone ever land on Eve and make it back? The gravity... |
