Hi Tomi, I believe the hatches size is 400mm x 600mm. I measure all six of the hatches off a 1:100 plan and got average of 405mm x 598mm :DL

Simon

Update: I used the wrong scale with my drawing :-( I believe the correct hatches size is 500mm x 700mm (the average was 485mm x 722mm).

Hatch cover

Hi Tomi, I found this over that 'WW2TALK' it a picture of the floor plate and hatch covers of U-534 by 'James S'. You can see small holes they used to open the hatch covers. Also you can see that the hatches cover have square corners not rounded corners like in the plans.

Engine air intake system

Hi Tomi

I not sure if you started drawing and modeling the engine air intake system and you may know this already, nevertheless I thought I would cautious you as I spend two weeks trying to work out myself :damn: I initial thought that this system was the same on both the port and starboard, but after a few weeks I realize they at not the same ;). Almost all of the pictures of the system are of the port side, one of the few pictures of the starboard side is at

This page has the better source of information on the pipe system and was a great help with my drawing.

Hatch covers

Hi Tomi

During your research have you found any hatch cover in the floor of the engine room? I have only found the 6 large hatch covers and the 5 small round opening along the walkway between the engines. I can not found any more  But I would think there must be more!! Like over the oil coolers etc.. Any ideas :hmmm:

Hi Tomi

The left arrow; I thought initially they were LIGHTENING HOLES (A hole cut in a plate to make it lighter and yet not reduce its strength) but it can't be as oil would just fall out :hmmm: They can't also be hatch cover as they over the joins of the oil tanks :hmmm::hmmm::hmmm:

The mid red arrow; I imagine they are 45° plates. 3D drawing :D
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/120/50796717.jpg

right arrow - They are hatch covers for access to the oil tanks.
