I just uninstalled SH3/GWX2.1 and forgot to roll back SH3Cmdr before.... will this cause me any problems in future with my new GWX installation?
Are there any special steps I must take now?

btw when is JScones coming back? :(

There's probably some way to delete some .ini file or something in the SH3 Cmdr folder, but I'd probably play it safe and go ahead and uninstall and do a clean install of SH3 Cmdr as well when you re-install SH3/GWX - with clean installs of all the elements you should have your best chance for getting good results.

Good luck.

I don't think you would have any problems, since you are uninstalling SH3 also..

And from what I read here,JScones isn't coming back,which is a sad deal:cry:

I've a question I thought would be easy enough to find already answered somewhere but alas I've turned up nothing.

Using SH3 Commander in conjunction with the Resolution Fix using MS Compatibility Administrator and Kegety's DX files. once you install kegety's files to the SHIII directory you can't launch SHIII via SH3 Commander as the game just crashes before loading (though even if the game did launch you wouldn't be using your custom resolution). but it seems SH3 Cdr makes the proper changes and immediately loading SHIII via the compatibility admin program allows me to play without any apparent problems.

Everything seems to work fine, though I was wondering if I've missed a better way to manage custom resolutions or if there was a better method of using SH3 Cdr and the old Res Fix together...?

Dude I have SH3 Commander and Resolution fix using Vista 32 and I don't have crashes. If your using GWX 2.1 they have a cfg file that needs to be added. If its vanilla SH3 then you did something wrong.

Is there an error message?

What is kegety's dx files?

There are no crashes during gameplay... only during start-up which inevitably shows the windows error "SHIII has encountered a problem and needs to close". and by Kegety's Dx files I mean the two files, d3d9.cfg and d3d9.dll that are added to the SHIII Directory to make the fix work...

The thing is, in order for the resolution fix to work, SHIII has to be launched via the Microsoft Compatibility administrator. However, SH3 commander seems to apply its config changes or what have you only when you try to launch SHIII from the SHIII Commander interface.

So what I do is make changes in SH3 Commander, and hit launch... the game tries to load, then crashes, but the changes SH3 Cdr made are still good. after it crashes I launch via compatibility administrator as normal and everything works fine.

I'm only asking because I've been using that Compatibility administrator trick ever since it was released some time after SHIII was released. I'm wondering if there's a better way at changing the in game resolution after all these years since its means of working doesn't seem to agree totally with SHIII Commander. Being able to launch from Commander alone would be less hassle.

Are you using XP? I don't know why it doesn't work in your system. I've never had your experiance before.:damn:

I know someone here has the full Res fix that can install auto for XP users. In Vista I've just copied and pasted 2 d3d9 files to the SH3 folder. I've changed my Screen to 1680x1050 and it works. I didn't use the Microsft Compatibility administrator.

If your using vista hmmm I have to find the post I made here that explains the whole process in setting up a game to work properly in Vista 32. :hmm:

From having waded through various threads earlier this year to install the resfix in XP, my recollection is that there was initially reference with one resfix file to having to also install the MS compatibility gizmo, but subsequently there was reference to just having to use the resfix file (whether the same or another I don't recall). At any rate, I use the "second" resfix file without the MS compatibiility thing and it works fine. I don't recal the resfix filename just now. I will check when I get home this evening and post the filename (with link or otherwise I'll put the file up on FileFront).

Bummer. I have used SH3Cmdr for a while with no major problems at all. Any that did pop up, I caused myself and when I undid what caused it everything was fine. I see the link to d/l the newest version, which is nice.

I really like the program.

I know what you mean. I've been an on-off reader since our great Onkel launched the site from his forward tubes back in the last century, but I never really had time enough to join the wolfpack. I've only just started to force myself to post after this whole situation with Jaesen. I mean, I felt really bad about not saying "thank-you" for his mod until now, but like you I had little time to do so with everything else going on. If I was Jaesen, I would've tried my best to 100% ignore all the typical questions too, but I suppose after all these years of being bombarded by morons he finally "cracked", as would anyone.

Welcome aboard Kondor999

EDIT: I'm sorry I didn't have time to say thank-you for your great work until now, so here's a little tribute from me to you Mr Jones:

Nice work, really JSc:up:

But I have one question, is it possible to change the ship names appearing in patrol logs to be matched with the nationality of the sunken ship? Today I sank a Soviet freighter and I found out it was called S.S. Tampico...:nope:

EDIT: Thanks and sorry for spam. Next time I will read carefully...

You can do this manually yourself by using the SH3Cmdr Patrol Editor
