I agree completely.

Thaum 05-16-07 03:20 PM

Yep. I agree. I bought a game that was broken. The authors have a commercial duty to fix it. I love the sim, just like SH3 (alas heavily modded).

I applaud Ubi for publishing this sim, it's a shame it was shipped in a state that was far less than perfect.

Let's have that patch.

Thaum.

mimik 05-16-07 03:28 PM

all hands on deck for this one!.. i'm not buying the game untill it is completely patched!.. untill then i'm sticking with good ol' SH3 v1.4!.. we NEED the patch!..

scalelokt 05-16-07 03:31 PM

Yes more patches are warranted, at least one more. You definitly have my vote. I might also mention that along with the glaring bugs listed in the original post, I could add one or two more that are about as bad. Bottom line, SH4 is not finished. Ubi please complete this game and give your customers a quality product. If SH4 isnt finished after all the money it has generated Ubi, I'm sure many of us would be very hesitant about an SH5......

wetwarev7 05-16-07 03:34 PM

I agree with the OP. Ubisoft, fix the product you sold, or forget about ever having me for a customer again!

GT182 05-16-07 03:38 PM

Neal is right, there is a need for 1.3, but I feel it will have to go father than that to fix it. One patch to fix it would be just too large for those on dialup to get in one download. Think of how long it would take them too.

After all the comments have been read I have to say this, and I'm sorry if it ruffles feathers, but if you think about how past releases of Ubi's sub sims have gone, you just might agree.

If Ubi doesn't fix SH4 as they should, it could be their death blow for selling us anything ever again. Sure they need to make money but they also need to fix what they prematurely sell. And that includes SHIII too. Let your developers do their job for what they built for you Ubi. In the end you'll get more of respect you deserve from the gaming community instead of all this flak. Neal has helped you out plugging these sub sims, so now it only seems fair to honor his request to finish what you started. A little compasion for the gamers here will go a long way for you in the end.

Fix the hardcoded AI or allow them to be modded as well.

Besides that, leave it to the modders. ;)

Patch 1.3 needed...

clayman 05-16-07 03:47 PM

Yes Ubi ... we need 1.3 to take this game to where it needed to be at release. The team brought us up to 1.2 ... let them finish the job.

Madman 05-16-07 03:59 PM

Agreed, finish the sim. :yep:

Jmack 05-16-07 04:06 PM

i told many times i wouldnt buy Silent Hunter 4 ...

well things change so i decided to get it anyway despite all the bad remarks i had read about it .

i have to be honest i am disapointed with present SH4 and despite the fact that the modding community around the Silent Hunter Series will with no doubt find solution for all the things left unfinished by Ubisoft i believe the 1.3 is needed for many reasons stated above and also because we dont pay the modders we pay Ubisoft ...
Its simple ... i wouldnt buy a car without wheels or a house without roof ... but i payed Ubisoft for a product that it wasnt finished so i expect them to correct this situation .

1.3 IS ESSENTIAL BUT PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME AND FINISH IT PROPERLY BEFORE RELEASING IT

I have not heard anything about the status of a third patch, which the game needs to be considered complete. Before the dev team gets too far from the construction site, Subsim is going to mount a campaign for patch v1.3. Silent Hunter 4 is an enjoyable game but has yet to reach the point where we consider it complete. The future of the Silent Hunter franchise depends on maintaining a reputation for quality.

We call on Ubisoft to complete Silent Hunter 4. We don't expect every wish to be fulfilled, but there are several key gameplay issues that loyal players and Ubisoft customers, who bought an incomplete game, deserve to have addressed. These include:
  • All AI needs tweaking, too often merchant ships all come to a stop and muddle around when under attack. Destroyers guarding merchants and especially in task forces occasionally seem somewhat uninterested in firing back. The Subchaser is unable to fire its main gun at all. If you mod the Subchaser to have a second gun in a raised position where the AA gun is it will fire this gun. The Akizuki DD has a similar issue, of the four guns it has only the two guns on the raised platforms actually fire. When the boat is rammed by a destroyer (for example) the destroyer generally comes of worse and often explodes.
  • Units of measurement: Imperial units for ship dimensions, torpedo depth gauge, range figure in the TDC and Position Keeper, all UOM issues need to be resolved.
  • Campaign retirement – feature or bug? Bug. Suggestion that it should be optional.
  • Repetitive patrols still get assigned.
  • Chronometer still doesn’t work as described in the manual. “The Chronometer bug”, this needs a quick and dirty fix, just a simple speed response in the text box when the Speed button is selected in the TDC, as occurs when the player clicks the Depth Beneath Keel button. But, importantly, the player should still have the choice of manually entering his own speed estimate in the TDC.
  • Radar needs finishing touches. It doesn't work when heading South 90deg to 270deg. Is SD radar fixed? Does is not detect ships but will detect aircraft? Also, when SD radar fitted there is no A scope display.
We need your help to demonstrate the need for patch 1.3. Join the campaign here and make yourself heard. Post here. Don't hesitate or put it off. This thread will need hundreds of names to merit any attention.

Agreed!

Major issue actually!

robbierob2005 05-16-07 04:25 PM

Well, I want to put my name on the list.

Please, we need the 1.3 patch!

Church SUBSIM 05-16-07 04:26 PM

First, thanks to Neil for posting this. For me, your post adds credibility to you and your site. I think it is safe to say it is appreciated by all that frequent these forums and who appreciate and play the Silent Hunter series.

Without question a patch is warranted. By doing what is right and patching the product so it meets with the product specifications and reasonable expectations of the end users, you are in essence insuring future sales of the product line. Granted, there are budget issues, numbers and hard costs to deal with. There is also doing what is right.

Please begin work on the 1.3 patch. Please ensure me as a future customer.

Yes, yes, another patch!!!

If the game remains as it is it will probably soon end up on the shelf, or worse, in the garbage!

(The sad thing is I'm only half joking... I'm sick of paying for unfinished programs!)
