Well, crap - must have been hallucinating or something - the settings are not sticking today - still having to reset the message text box and unlock the tool bar every time I load in today - bummer - was hoping something about this had really fixed this issue. Oh well, not a big deal, but would have been nice. At least they can be moved and unlocked - gotta be thankful for that anyway.

Beery, just a quick question. Is the setting for the wave attenuation located in the sim confg.? I did see it , but wanted to make sure that this was the right, and or only place for the setting. Thanks.

Great work Beery (and everyone) on RFB1.22, lots of cool mods included.

One quick comment: the readme said the wave trough height (or something like that) was changed. It seems to have effected the ability of the crew to control depth in rough seas. Now the depth moves up and down as much as 20 ft (this happens at periscope depth and even deeper). The stock of compressed air is used up in 4 or 5 hours as the sub porpoises up and down.

It may be the cure was worse than the disease in this case.

p.s. appreciate the detailed readme, so I can change the offending file myself if I so choose...this is a great feature.

I'm having a problem where, when I try to fire a torpedo by clicking on the red button, it doesn't fire at all. This applies to every tube. Do any of you have the same problem?

Fish40 05-02-07 05:31 PM

No problems here.:hmm:

Ranma13 05-02-07 05:59 PM

I just did more testing and I can't fire the torpedoes at all. The only time it seems to work is when the game has just loaded (the actual game, not the main menu) and I can fire it from there, but if I try to do a patrol or a quick mission, it refuses to fire.

You can imagine how frustrating it is to get a perfect manual TDC, just to find out your torpedoes won't fire :S.

Oh, the torpedoes fire fine for the unmodded game, but if I mod it, it seems like it refuses to work...

I think we covered this earlier in the thread. What I did was set the wave attenuation in Sim.cfg to 0.03. It's fixed in the upcoming RFB 1.23. It's an easy fix for anyone to do so I figured I'd let everyone have a go at it instead of issuing a bugfix.

This seems to be an issue that takes place if we use a NoCD file. Apparently the powers that be at Ubisoft don't like the idea that some of us might want to keep the game disk in relatively good condition.

Bloody 'ell Beery - great work on the new version! I am a Tambor class guy meself - and RFB makes the experience so much better. Between your work - and the work of others duly credited - my SH4 experience (and testing) is much better. THANKS!
Good Hunting!

Hehe, I see. I play 4-5 games that all require the CD to be played, so I ended up either making disc images of each game or using NoCD cracks. Guess I'll have to leave the SH4 disc in the drive then =/. Strange how it only disables torpedo firing if I mod the game, but it works fine on stock...

The manifestations of the copy protection are intermittent. Sometimes you'll see very serious effects, other times you'll hardly notice anything. It affects the stock game too.

sqk7744 05-03-07 11:21 AM

That copy protection (on legit game versions) really is intrusive. -Wreaks havoc with my DLA drive software too. :nope:

Beery 05-03-07 12:42 PM

As a proud owner of a legitimate copy of the game I must say I hate pirates - I wish they didn't exist. They are a blight on the gaming world. However, intrusive copy protection practices are driving me to hope that some pirate comes out with a way to disable the protection so I can play the game freely. That shouldn't be the case.

In my opinion intrusive copy protection that restricts legitimate users actually serves the interests of the pirates because it creates an environment where the general population NEEDS pirates just to free up the game so that players can play the game without restrictions. I mean occasionally I get a hankering to play older games that are on my computer and sometimes I have to hunt high and low for a game disk when the game is already sitting there ready to play except for the stupid copy protection. I'm just tired of this nonsense.

Intrusive copy protection only creates more pirates and it annoys legitimate users like me. If software companies are serious about wanting to stop pirates this sort of copy protection is the very LAST thing they should use as a weapon against piracy. In my view the real way such so-called 'copy protection' serves the software companies is by getting extra revenue from players who have lost their game disk.

More software folks should use the stardock model.:|\\
