Thanks for those, Boris.

Great screenshots, and although it's been said ad nauseam already, it needs to be said yet again: amazing translucent water effect!

What? It's Parker's new anti-ramming tactic. He used it to great effect until his crew grew tired of cleaning up after the barrel-roll. Apparently everything not bolted down and secure would... move when the sub rolled around:shifty:.

We need to start up that "Funny SH4 images" thread again.

Here we go, even more shots from Hamburg, this time from the marinesims.de preview:

:o I'm speechless!!!

Any chance of a night-shot on those locations?

Boris 02-20-07 03:23 PM

Well I don't make em, so I can't help you there. I too would like to see a night shot.

Boris 02-20-07 03:25 PM

My theory on the lack of AA in the shots... the post processing effect they use looks like it has some form of HDR bloom. If it's anything like the bloom effect in SH3, it messes with the AA and makes it look pixelated. I think I might have the effect turned off once I get to play this.

flintlock 02-20-07 03:26 PM

Is this algae floating in the water? Certainly looks like it. If it is:

That last shot in Boris' post had me wondering why is the sub on the surface, then I noticed the extensive damage on it. Really nice new damage model. I hope it translates into physics as well as graphics.

Thanks again for the posts, Boris.

Boris 02-20-07 03:33 PM

Don't thank me, thank marinesims and AOTD :D

flintlock 02-20-07 03:36 PM

I'm thanking anyone who had anything to do with me being able to see these screenshots, and here on this thread - that's you, sailor!

This game looks beautiful in low light conditions... senset and dusk. I love the highlights and shadows on the water.

underwater pics...

ok, this msg is mostly for people who were at either one of the previews events.

First: concerning the marinesims underwater screenshot, is it a REAL screenshot or one provided by UBI as some kind of presskit? What I mean is: is there angled light rays in SH4 as in this pic?

Second: i recall an "old" photoshopped underwater screenshot. As i outlined on this pic, does this screenshot reflects the way light is fading through water in real SH4?
http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/3064/02zk6.jpg

Or is it rather like this, much like in SH3 (pics from marinesims sh4 subs gallery):

http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/9245/05ph2.jpg

wich brings a second question: in the first pic, we now knows there's no depth-of-field blurred bubbles floating around but is everything else (colour rendition, blooms, light fading, caustics etc...) completely faithfull to real SH4? cause there's quite a HUGE difference in quality between those 2 pics

Is it me or is there a number "2" hovering just next to the left ship, partially hidden by smoke?

hyperion2206 02-21-07 09:46 AM

I see the number 2 as well. Could it be that there is a "F" before the "2"?
