I know the pup certainly couldn't :)

Houston shut down, iced over bridges and overpasses. Good day to stay home and play SH4.

Saw this on the news today and wondered how you were getting along, any heat in your shipping container?

It's sticking right around 0 deg F here, with wind chills below that - supposed to get a couple " of snow tomorrow and more on Sunday. I'm ready for winter to be over already!

Perfect day sailing the 25' Catalina on the north bay at the confluence of the Napa river and the Sacramento as it empties into San Francisco Bay. 69 degrees, some haze, lots of ship traffic and sailors out. Surfs up and small craft advisories; waves are 40' just down at Mavericks for the surf championship!! We hit 8 knots before losing our nerve!!! One 20' log off Alcatraz reported by CG. We were on a newly resewn main sail and didn't want to press our good luck. New Garmin GPS radar interface overlay hanging just inside the hatch way on the slider roof works to perfection...a piece of cake for any one whose played with a SHV TAC screen actually.( Ipad nav does it too) Ships with transponders-give you name, speed etc. No errors, problems or mishaps from launch to docking- a rare day...and why I left Minnesota!:arrgh!:

I thought you lived nearby. I'm in San Rafael.

The weather has been so warm the bears are not hibernating. I wonder what effect that will have come spring? Cranky bears? And what about gestation of embryos as I believe that happens during hibernation?

Not much. I have a space heater and an electric blanket. When I get it insulated, that should help a bunch.

Suffering a bout of Enuresis would be bad about now.:03::huh:

Any ice forming on the interior walls yet?

Onkel Neal 01-28-14 01:10 PM

Everything is shut down again in Houston. The freeways look like something outta zombie movie, few cars. When they tell Texans it's not safe to drive on icy roads and stay home, we do!:woot:

It's colder than Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid in a staring contest here in Michigan. Currently -1*F here. Not sure what that value is for our Celsius friends here. Haha.

Jimbuna 01-29-14 06:12 AM

-1*F = -18.33*C

Wolferz 01-29-14 07:55 AM

No temperature here in NE Pa this morning.

-end report-

swamprat69er 01-29-14 08:12 AM

You must have incredible lungs! :03:

Oh, wait. You have a tractor with a snow blower. The lazy man's tool for snow removal.:stare: I'm jealous.:D

swamprat69er 01-29-14 09:40 AM

That's a big 10-4 on the lazy.:D That is why I am also a tanker yanker.:haha:

Shoveling snow might be good exercise, but it is also a good way to have a heart attack. NOT for me. I could afford the tractor and the blower so I went for it.

swamprat69er 01-29-14 10:07 AM

I just measured that 4" we got overnite. Ha, ha, it is more like 8" and still snowing.

Same pattern we've been in for the past month or so - 38F/3C looking at a high of 49F/9C, no snow expected. At the nearby resorts conditions are also low: Alta has only had 181" so far this season and currently has 56" on the ground, which is about half of normal.

Are the ski hills making snow?

I can't find any specific information on daily activities, but I'm sure they are, just to put some fresh powder on top of the snowpack.

The sparsest Utah winter I'm aware of was 1976/77, when the resorts got a total of about 300" and Salt Lake City had no snow at all.

On the other hand in 1991/92 the ski resort at Alta got more than 900" of snow, and the road up Little Cottonwood Canyon was closed two or three times per week. The following winter, 1992/93 started off fairly mild, then in March it started snowing and didn't stop until mid-May, finally ending up nearly as heavy as the previous year. After that the reservoirs were full and the snow melted all at once, resulting in the infamous '83 floods.
