Thanks, this is some seriously good eye candy, but why would this one single mod slow my PC down to a crawl ?
I'm running vanilla SH4 1.4, on a pretty low end PC, and installed the Salmon mod, inside is fine and all looks very smart, but on the bridge and periscope views the game slows down to 1 FPS.
What part of this mod is very CPU intensive ? and can the mod do without whatever might be causing the slowdown ?

tia

Part of the problem could be that you are running v1.4 while this mod was actually designed to work in a v1.5 environment (TMO 1.9 was written for SH4 v1.5 IIRC).

Secondly, seriously good eye candy is expensive in terms of computer resorces. What are your computers specs (it runs fine on my low-endish box - 2ghz dual-core Athlon, 2G system memory, 1G video memory on Nvidia GT230 card).

Lastly, what mods do you have installed, in what order? Providing more information will allow better heads than mine to help you.;)

Hi Capt, :salute:

Hmm, ok, maybe I should have a said VERY low endish, it's on an old system I dug out of the shed.
I'm now running v1.5 U-Boat Missions

P4 3.4 ghtz
2 gig mem (PC3200 400mhtz)
ATI X850 (AGP)

Mods:

GFO 1.1
Webster's New Orders Bar Menu for v1.5

I'm running in 1024 x 768 with AA x2 Temporal

The slow down only happens when I turn the view to point to 180 degrees when stood on the bridge, otherwise all it running fine.
I know this system is limited, but was thinking maybe the animated fans were the culprit, but they seem to be included in GFO and my FPS is fine. :hmmm:
I'm looking into modding this game, so I'll figure it out eventually, but was hoping i could disable something in the mod in the meantime.

thx

Capt. Morgan 02-08-12 04:29 AM

Well your computer matches the published system requirements almost exactly - although they usually describe the least powerful computer that can possibly handle the game. Minimum video memory was 256K, so I assume you're good there as well.

GFO is a pretty light mod so perhaps this one is just one mod too many.

There is an old trick of rotating the Captains view from the bridge a full 360d to read all the scenery data into memory. I know that on my old computer i had to do that if I was in harbor before the frame-rate would be playable. If I stopped at 180, the FR would remain slow.

Sorry, I but that's all I can think of.

spooks2k1 02-08-12 08:14 AM

Thanks Capt, No worries, I think it must be the animated fans, they're not in GFO as I thought.

It will be a nice project to begin modding this game , figuring out how to take out the fans and leave the rest intact.

I guess as usual there' a lot of trial and error involved ;)

There doesn't seem to be much "modding" info available or tutorials for that matter, but i reckon I can figure it out.

spooks2k1 02-08-12 08:57 AM

Yup, it was the fans, I compared the original dat with the animated one and it was pretty easy to find to switch, I just deleted a couple of animation nodes.
Now I can enjoy these cool interiors on an inferior mosheen :)

Superb work on this Vickers. I have been on a number of boats from these classes as they came thru San Diego long ago, and my grandfather was a retired USN Commodore and knew many of the skippers and I can say your work is superb. I am looking forward to seeing these wonderful interiors in operation soon, as my shoreside activities have gone well and I am due for some sea duty soon. thank you for your amazing eye for detail, I am looking forward to sharing this work with a buddy of mine who lives nearby, he was ComSubPac in the late 1940s and tho he does not use computers he enjoys eyeballing the virtual wonders of the SH series. thanks again. the mod work on these titles continues to amaze me.

Any problems using this mod with RFB?

I know this is a TMO mod, but I've been using it in RFB without problem. Others however have not been so lucky. has anyone else had problems with this interior mod in RFB? I love it because (great eye candy aside) it adds deep diving capabilities to RFB.

Any chance of an update so the ladder to the conning tower can be between the dive planesmen ? I never seen a photo of a Gato interior where the ladder is behind the diving officer. Not sure what UBI was going off of.I have also been on the USS Drum and the conning tower ladder is between the planesmen. I remember the RFB guys moved the Gato ladder to the historically correct position. While not the biggest deal, it's always bothered me.

This would seem to be the kind of variation that could be determined by the boat's captain either during new construction, overhauls or refits. It wouldn't be a major task. Look at the first picture link below and note the planes men would come down the ladder from their lookout station and have to step around the ladder to rig out the planes and take their station. also the diving office has to position himself off to the side forward of the ladder and not directly behind the diving station.

Then look at this drawing and it appears the the diving station is directly accessible after descending the ladder and the diving officer is directly behind the planesmen

Not a big deal but I could see why some COs might prefer it.

These interiors were incorporated into TMO 2.5, ickers excellent work is already there for all classes.

drakkhen20 07-11-13 05:14 PM
