I cannot believe this team pulled one out of their collective tookus....

Sorry about adding more non related stuff to this thread but I wanted to share more of the hockey team I have a man crush on:

Blackhawks Player Sopel Opens His Heart and Home

Mary Frances Bragiel, WBBM Newsradio 780 Reporting
CHICAGO -- More than a dozen military families associated with the Illinois chapter of Operation Homefront will be without their spouse this holiday season but not without the essentials. And the Chicago Blackhawks are to thank..

Blackhawks defenseman Brent Sopel and his wife Kelly will open their west suburban home today to nearly 20 families and Blackhawk players for a holiday celebration.

Each player has committed to spending $600 on each family for food and toys and at the same time get a chance to know one another.

Sopel says he can sympathize with military families who will wake up on Christmas day knowing that a loved one is overseas.

The Blackhawks have paired with the Illinois chapter of Operation Homefront for this effort

If this wasn't a case of the football gods having their say, I don't know what is.

It was an exciting 4th quarter and OT, if you are a Bears fan. They did not deserve this game at all. Aramike, you are absolutely right.

Yeah, I seriously can't remember a team losing this many close games in a single season, at any level.

But, I will say that I think I can stomach the Bears going better than the Vikings. :damn:

Heh, who would have thought that 2008 would see the Brewers in the playoffs and the Packers with a losing campaign? :hmm:

Sorry, I used to go to one Brewer/Sox game once a year. My grandpa owned a tavern and would have a trip every year to County stadium. As a kid, nothing beat a fella in Leaderhosen (sp) slide down from the humongous wooden keg in center field and the release of balloons everytime a Brewer jacked a homer. As a Cub fan, that was quality entertainment! Got to see a few future HOFer's play live Yount, Molitor....

I just wish Scumbag, I mean Selig would have left enough alone and kept Harvey's Wallbangers where they belonged, the AL.

Yeah, I can relate to that. I'm no fan of Selig's management of baseball.

On the other hand, I can hardly watch AL baseball. The DH just kills it for me. It just kills bench and bullpen management, IMO. I'd wish they'd either get rid of the DH altogether or lower the roster sizes of the AL to compensate.

It does suck, though, that the Brewers/Cubs rivalry have caught some people in the middle. My grandmother was a huge Cubs fan and I watched and listened to their games growing up. A sort of dual-allegience. Now it seems to have gotten bitter. ;)

As a southpaw pitcher till college, I hated the DH, just like you. They started it to get attendence up in the 70's and then the players union locked it down. When skybird becomes ruler of the world and I am his advisor of all that is USA, we will get rid of the DH. Also, the original names for divisions in the NHL will come back, Bettman will be run over by a zamboni driven by a dwarf. We will be forever in his debt, a kraut that had the foresight to be king!

 Yeah, I'm totally for the original NHL divisional names. The league needs some tradition back...
