You and MacBee should get together. I understand he's been reenacting Civil War for years. IIRC he was used as a cannonball in a recent live fire excersise.:D

Platapus 02-01-11 08:46 PM

When BBSs were first starting out, I always used Platypus as a screen name as I am interested in the species and it is, like me, difficult to classify.

One site already had a defunct user name of Platypus so I could not use it. Bastage!

So I adopted a deliberate misspelling of Platapus and it kinda caught on. I have never had any problems using Platapus as it is never taken LoL

Besides it is a lot easier to type than Vampiroteuthus which was my other choice. :har:

Gammelpreusse 02-02-11 05:06 AM

lol, funny thread. Got mine because I was called this way by a coworker one day. Had to laugh and when I asked why he came up with that, he said "Because you are looking like a bummer while having Prussian attitudes"

Actually, he was spot on (though the bummer looks have gone by now)

hmmm ... a somewhat bizarre request if I may say so. Such is my name therefore it would only be correct to make an assumption. :yep: Adept - skilfull, to display my knowledge and erudition. :know: Charge - Due to my acumen and aptitude, it is my high position to ascertain facts. To befit the forum - Depth Charge - I present (Adept Charge). Being as this title - nomenclature, insofar as it pertains to myself, is factually correct, I can perceive no premises for further comment.

Well. You missed an avenue of further comment: While those of us with appropriately large vocabularies sufficient to the task of understanding the entirety of your post will readily and easily accomplish that task, there may yet remain among the membership of the forum those individuals whose paths in life may not yet have afforded them the opportunity to ascertain the knowledge of some, many, or all of the terms you use with the comfort of a long acquaintance, and those individuals may therefore be unable to glean the essential truths of your post, and may in fact feel marginalized or even slightly offended by their inability to comprehend the meaning of your explanation.

I was in a Calvary group for about 2 years when I had horses. Once we chared another group..union scum:O:. Our swords are thick metal, blunt, more like sligging weapons and sometimes we get a lil carried away. I whopped one soldier fairly hard and he fell off his horse. When the hat came off out falls two feet of perfect hair...twas a girl. This resulted in a fight with her boyfriend and it actually turned into rather a brawl...thankfully calm prevailed before anyone got seriously hurt.

I miss those days, mostly the balls afterwards thrown usually at some plantation house. Loved the women coming in wearing those big hoop dresses, lot's of fun trying to get them off later.

Penguin 02-04-11 01:37 PM

i've chosen mine, because I'm an amphibious bird ;)
No big story, I decided to become a member and thought about something naval in the broadest sense. And I like penguins!
As a landlubber I am quite the opposite of a penguin, I perform ok on land, but are clumsy in the water :DL
