Hi my name is Ross Clunie and I live in Waikato region (just south of Hamilton) of New Zealand. Been playing Silent hunter on and off since SH2, which I thought was great. SH3 was better but I didn't get into SH4 at all. Took me a while to get into SH5 but I am really starting to enjoy it, I think that one of the problems with SH5 was the completely different GUI which was hard to adjust to, seemed to step away from the simulator style, I suspect the developers are trying to attract a different audience / player. A big thanks to all the modders out there who have made this series as good as it is and already improved SH5.
I have been playing computer games since the old Atari 800 days back in the early 80's. My favorite style of game is the military sim and I was heart broken when the "Janes" titles ended, My two all time favs were Janes Longbow and Janes Navy Fighters. Looking forward to the improvements and mods to come. Happy hunting to all :yeah: |
ROLL CALL:
Hi all. My name is Todd Neil, but my nickname is Buck. I've been around
for awhile, but don't post much. I've purchased and played every game made concerning submarines. I purchased SH5 as soon as it was released. Bugs or not, it's great. With the support of the brilliant modding comunity, this will probably end up the best of the bunch. My biggest complant: I would like the clocks, and all gauges to be functional on my boat. I'm not to happy with having to have a full time internet connection, but I'm willing to flex, to get the sim. Anyway, modders, keep it going. You guys are what make this site what it is. A wonderful place to share information and relax after a long day of paper pushing. I'm a purchasing manager and live in Des Moines, Iowa. A long way from the ocean. I was in the Navy for 7 years, on a minesweeper no less.:haha: Keep up the good work everyone. Buck28 :salute: |
Hi my name is Ralph i live in Scotland . I have played sh since sh2 ,now enjoying sh5 :salute:

Hi All,
Been posting for a while, but thought I'd finally introduce myself here! My name is James, 23 from Nottingham, England. I left school at the age of 18 to try and forge a career in the IT industry. Didn't quite work out to plan as I ended up working in telecommunications for 4 years! I now enjoy working as an IT Manager in a small telecommunications firm (no matter how hard I try, I can never escape telecoms!) I enjoy Horse riding, Gliding, and, obviously gaming. Been a long time gamer, first ever subsim was Silent Hunter 1, when I was probably not quite old enough to properly understand it, but a love for all things submarine was born at an early age! I now spend a great amount of my time researching 1st - 2nd world war submarine warfare, and 18th Centuary British Naval warfare and economics (just a couple of my somewhat odd history obcessions!) A rather bad picture; http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/pict...pictureid=1958 |

G'day,
Jack here, from Australia. I've visited SUBSIM on and off for quite a few years now for tips, problem solving and links, etc, what a great site!! I should have done so a long time ago but now is the time to join the community here. :salute: I have a keen and broad interest in history and the military of all eras. I was working for a short while with the company that released "Das Boot" in Australia back in the early '80s...remember seeing the promotional material prior to release and thinking wow, this is fascinating. The movie became a lasting favourite of mine (more recently read the book too) and, along with other movies and books (Tom Clancy's work comes to mind), stirred up an ongoing interest in submarine warfare for me. I have memories of a U-Boot game that I played a few times on a friends PC back in the early '90s...can't remember what it was called, but I think that's what first switched me on to sub simulators... then 688 on Sega...then SH2, Destroyer Command. SH3 became one of my all time favourite games, modded to a certain extent (SH Commander, war time tunes, and a few other things). Although it's a mess at the moment, I'm really hoping SH5 can rise to greater heights via much needed patches and the excellent work of the modders here. I'm already eyeing off a few mods to dl, although I may just wait and see what the next patch brings before I start adding mods. SH5 is on the shelf for me at the moment. I used to kick around the Pirates Ahoy forum quite a bit and did a little bit of modding for the Pirates Of The Caribbean Build Mod community. :arrgh!: Anyway, enough about me. :D Glad to be coming aboard. Cheers, Jack p.s. severniae, yeah mate, naval warfare during the Age of Sail is a fav interest of mine too...:yeah: |
Hiya and welcome to subsim:up:

Cheers,
Thanks Robbo. :salute: |
Hi From North Wales
Hi all, I played SH3, have SH4 but haven't ever installed it for some reason (too many games maybe - also have Battleground Europe waiting to be installed), so have ended up skipping to play SH5, which I bought about four weeks ago. Personally, on balance, I think SH5 is great. I live within half a mile of where big parts of the Mullberry Dock were built for the Normandy bridge-head. There's a pub here called The Mullberry. Also, in the local civic cemetary there is a grave of four or five German U-Boat crewmen whose bodies washed onto the beaches here during WW2. Long time since I have looked at it, but the headstone says something along the lines of, "Strangers, by strangers mourned..." A reminder perhaps that real war is a huge plague and tragedy, unspeakable cruelty, and best only carried out in a game. I don't have a console and tend to only play PC games at weekends, with a few cold beers, so have only got to the second mission in the Happy Times part of the campaign. I haven't tried the online yet and wonder if it is any good? Other games I play: Red Orchestra, Battlefield Bad Company 2, MS Flight Sim X(with North Wales scenery and where I discovered you can't indeed land a 747 at Caernarfon airport), IL2, Saboteur, and one of my favourites, Empires Total War. My all time favourite sim, however, was EF2000, which was launched from the command line in MS-DOS. Pity that one hasn't been properly updated to new systems.

Good afternoon,
My name is Chad, I'm 38 years old and hail from West Bend, Wisconsin, USA. I am totally new to submarine sims, but thought that SH5 would be a good place to start. I have always had a healthy interest in WW2 and the German armed forces in general. It all started when I built my first 1/35th scale German tank. I am currently working on several Revell type 7 U-Boats. I also play airsoft. I am looking forward to downloading and applying mods (been lurking in the mods forum), and in general learning how to rule the waves. :) |
