Sorry

As a beginner my mods I did not only to improve my game but also for you the SH3 game players to have the choice of whether or not you wanted to use them too.
It is very stressful for any Modder to release an item and then to find that your hard work is being torn to shreds is upsetting to say the least. you all could see that JScones was trying his hardest to put right all that you found but he found himself under too much pressure and sailor Steve was just the last straw. We all know Steve Didn’t mean anything but sometimes you need to try and work things out yourselves or give the Modder time to take a breath how can you put something right when you are being bombarded with questions that show the person isn’t reading the instructions and wants someone to make it work for them. I’m sure JScones will feel a little bit silly once he calms down and realises he overreacted so just leave off and give him time.
Hell there is sometimes outside pressures that make it hard enough I should know
And Sorry JScones for what I said but I too was getting it in the neck too.

A plea for calmer heads to prevail here. Both JScones and Sailor Steve are respected members of this Forum. I, like many others, am only capable of running mods at all because of the excellent work done by JScones.....work that he's under no obligation to perform or share.

So let's just appreciate the awesome work done and the fact that it's very easy to get frustrated with computer software whether you're trying to write it or use it. :D

In my opinion the two most important tools/mods for the SHIII community have been SH3 Commander alongside the JSGME mod enabling utility. :yep:

The fact that someone made these for free and in their own time makes me even more grateful to their creator Jscones. And since their first release how many updates/improvements have there been? Many is what and probably more than we deserve. In fact the after release support for these utils/mods would put commercial game software developers to shame. :yep:

I could also say the same of the GWX team and their efforts to bring a stable top quality mod to the community. All these thousands of hours of work are done for free. That is passion and dare I say it, love for this simulation that quite frankly would probably be collecting dust right now if it wasn't for the passion of the many here who sought to improve SHIII.

Ditto to what TDK1044 said earlier. :yep:

Let's just enjoy the fruits of all the brilliant modders who have contributed to make SHIII what it is today. I don't blame or resent modders if they want a break from it all and depart the SHIII scene be it for a short spell of rest or to permanently leave te scene and move onto something new. Their modding legacy will endure. SHIII has become a great sim in no small part thanks to people such as Jscones, the GWX team (present, past, and of course retired Kpt. Lehmann), and all the other hundreds of modders. The SHIII community have been incredibly blessed. So let's simply enjoy what we have and be thankful for it. :sunny:

Lets face it, JSGME is the #1 tool out there IMHO. For near-do-wells like myself, JSGME makes all of this very easy for me. Think about it, imagine jamming in 200 mb of files by hand and hoping for the best.

[REL] SH3 Commander Release 3.1 is now available!

RDP,

Thanks for your reply to my message. My understanding of 'paying attention' is to take note, watch out or be attentive. I didn't wish to get into a bun fight here. I am extremely shocked that in 24 hours I have read several threads where REALLY GREAT modders have decided to leave - that is not good surely? The politics behind it do not interest me, more important to me is the fact that we have lost another brilliant modder whose contribution to this sim has been amazing. I really do hope he decides to come back. My point to my original post here was to say, come on everybody - let's try not to annoy any more of our remaining modders to the extent that they leave.

Rgds

No fight here, let's say we are coming to an understanding :D:yep:, nothing wrong with that.

I don't think anybody is interested in seeing folks leave here on a bad note, be it a modder, non-modder or any member here at SUBSIM for that matter.
Let's hope this comes to a positive conclusion.

JScones,
Respect to you for all you have done in the past,
That said,

Sincerely hope to see you back............... soon.

Well, this is a bit disappointing

I just read through this entire thread and what came through loud and clear is that many of the people here got very confused and started thinking they had *paid* for this software and deserved 24/7 tech support and hand-holding. No wonder the guy left.

The people here simply burnt him out with their incredibly stupid tech support questions which were likely unrelated to the mod itself. :damn:

For the record, I've installed the mod and have had zero problems. Then again, I am fairly competent with computers. My advice: if you're not, go elsewhere and come back when you're ready. I sincerely hope this doesn't happen again, but I've seen it happen on at least one other occasion (a modder for LOMAC).

Remember what motivates these guys. They want a little recognition and respect for the incredibly hard work they do. So think twice before you pester them with nonsense. And watch your damn tone. Sailor Steve came off like some clueless septuagenarian . Do you really think people have time to walk you through every little detail? Get in there and try to figure it out. Bugging the modder should be your *last* resort. :nope:

kondor999 05-31-08 07:53 AM

Hehe. Yeah, I guess it must seem that way. Actually, I've been here on/off since '03 (I think I was playing one of the Janes sub sims) but never really "contributed" to the forums b/c I was in med school and had zero time to follow up on anything.

I think I was harsh b/c (like I said) I've seen this happen a few times (although, in the case of the LOMAC mod, the users were openly insulting). But what I don't really understand is why the modder doesn't just 100% ignore the nonsense and focus on the (usually) core group that they know will give them useful feedback. Anyway, I guess that's what I'd do.

BTW, have any of you guys guys played with Touch-Buddy (God, I just realized what that must sound like)?

It's a really cool app that allows you to use a secondary touch-screen display for all the complex switchgear, etc in our sims. I use it in LOMAC (using a Tablet PC hooked up via wireless) and it's friggin' awesome. Anyway, check it out. Touch-buddy.com I believe. Oh, and it's free of course. Just a bunch of enthusiasts like over here.
