I can almost hear the next question - yes but I removed the main.cfg and it still crashed. Well the mod changes the Commands.cfg file so removing main.cfg = no effect.

r.

I've not modded anything and "A" causes a crash. Is there a fix for this? The line in the commands.cfg hosted in the mods forum appears to be identical to the one i already have.

Has anyone fixed the "A" bug? If not, im going to unmap it so at least i dont hit it by accident when trying to surface.

Here is a list of bugs I noticed fairly quickly:

1. 'A' causes crash to desktop.

2. Crewmen still 2-dimensional most of the time.

3. Crewmen still in various stages of transparency.

4. Cremen still spouting off random numbers between 0 and 9.

5. Depth under keel reported in feet even when metric units selected. 47' and 47m under keel is a BIG difference.

6. Units in Deck Gun are metric when imperial system is selected in the game. Makes accurate gunnery a bit difficult.

7. USS Tautog (Tambor class) - screws spin in the wrong direction, or the screws need to be remounted on the opposite shafts.

8. Tambor class in 1941 apparently detects enemies with radar that it doesn't have, and there isn't a way to turn the radar off, since that icon is grayed out.

9. Bad weather systems absurdly large in time and area coverage. It is very rare to encounter a stormy weather system the size of China, or half of Russia.

10. Something changed with the 1.1 on the navigational tutorial map because when one looks in the 10 o'clock direction the frames drop to 3 from a smooth 40.

11. Chronometer doesn't auto-calculate enemy ship speed. Is it by design?

12. Cloud effects are nice but unnaturally fast.

13. Sub gets ordered to All Stop after load from save game. Annoying.

14. Crewmen wear shorts and shirts in huge storms in the middle of the night. Also something with 'save' load.

15. Dive siren in Silent Running mode.

REQUESTS:

1. Please make the helmsan station clickable like it was in SH3 since it is extremely useful to be able to manually control the sub in hot situations as it cuts down on the "chain of command" orders delay. When a destroyer is making a DC run overhead it is very important that the sub reacts quickly instead of waiting for the crewmen to relay orders at their usual unexcited and lame rate. This can make a difference between escape or death.

2. Please implement volume control for the hydrophone.

Thank you in advance for looking into these issues.

I find the water effects absolutely fantastic. Well done in that regard.

No that is just bug - there's a large number of posts in this very thread about the same thing...

I've unmapped the key exactly as you propose...

S!

These are the copy protection of the game. There are a few threads about this now.

In theory you'll only see them if you're using the game illegally. For all I know some of your other bugs may be down to that also.

After one patrol in career mode the bugs I have found that I did not see on any of the past posts (no need to beat an old horse more then a dozen times) are as follows:

1) Deck gun zooming is not accurate....you can fire using open sites...but to use the zoom feature...I will get an range from the periscope view, set the range on the zoom and watch my shell land about 50 yds away from my own boat.

2) The send contact report button doesn't work.

3) I noticed when lifeboats deploy from ships I have sunk they have no crew members. I can see an odd ball boat drifting off a ship as debris...but some actually look like they have headway.(DISREGARD...PLAYED A COUPLE OF PATROLS LAST NIGHT AND THE LIFEBOATS AND RAFTS WERE FILLED WITH SOULS. I BELIEVE I'M GUILTY OF NOT PERSUING THAT BUT FOR MORE THEN ONE PATROL....WHICH TELLS ME THAT THE OCCASIONAL EMPTY LIFEBOAT OR RAFT PARTIALLY FULL OF WATER IS A NICE ADDED TOUCH....KUDOS)

As always with most games...there will be bugs...but as Neil Stevens posted earlier positive feedback is what is going to get these issues fixed. And it is apparent from playing the game that the subsim community is watched and heard due to the fact that Stevens' name is on the in game clock. Its best to post your negative frustrations in a different thread so we can keep this thread cool for the devs.

However as even Ubi themselves admitted it has been confirmed as affecting legitimate users (which is in itself another bug).

Probex 03-23-07 11:43 AM

Is it this FADE system, where everybody with genuine games is still having problems?
Some protection scheme. Maybe another lagal challenge will get rid of this one just like Starforce.

As it happens I ALWAYS run no cd executables (if available) because it drives me insane that in this day and age I still have to swap cd's in the drive. That was the era of the floppy. It also delays the load of time of the game.

I PAID for the merchandise and I expect a convenient use of it.

Well there you are - don't use a "nocd exe" and you'll be fine. Who knows maybe you'll avoid a virus or two in the process ;)

Well yes, but so far, pretty much everyone claiming to have had this is also saying that they have used/are using nocd cracks.

Given that is the case, even if they haven't nocd'd SH4, they may well have software on their machine which enables that possibility, and Securom is detecting that.

I suppose the question is whether what is happening to some is a bug or in fact the intended behaviour.

"pretty much" doesnt mean everyone. The fact they've admitted its affecting even one person when factored up could well mean a large number are getting it.

Obviously didnt learn their lesson with the total screwup that was SH3

Sgian Dubh 03-23-07 12:09 PM

The props on the three submarines I have checked, S, P and Tambor all rotate the wrong way.

I don't mean counter-rotation - this is as it should be.

If you look at the pitch of the prop blades when at all stop and then go to ahead slow, you will see that the props (which should lead with the heavy/thick side) would propel the boat in reverse, not forward.

Also, the props seem to hesitate and surge during rotation. This is minor compared to the above issue.

They started circling maybe 600 metres behind me deploying depthcharges (as I was underneath them) but I was actually on the surface watching them quite close.
It was dark and fairly high waves - but clear so it was no reason for the DD's to not spot me!

On the Silent Hunter page I see this romanian guy talking about the great AI - well I can't say I'm impressed.

The graphics, however, is outstanding!

Maybe early war??

As per...

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...=108128&page=2

The TDC generated bearings (bottom dial, inner ring, read at the 12 o'clock position) are not displayed properly when the bearing to the target is port side, or less than zero degrees.

-Pv- 03-23-07 02:22 PM

I can confirm the "A" maintain depth key causes instant CTD. Also prior to the patch 1.1 there was still the old SHIII zoom in/out tool at the top of the attack map screen. Now, after the patch, there is no way to zoom out on that map since the zoom tool is no longer accessible.

I believe empty lifeboats are a feature not a bug. The crew doesn't always make it and boats drift free. Consider it one of the lingering flotsoms of war. As for those empty boats moving, yes there are currents and winds as well as wave and wake effects.
