Well you know the excuse they'll give...."It was to be expected, this happens to every ruling party whilst in power".

Red Devil 05-22-14 09:18 AM

yep, labour used it for years. I simply cannot understand people voting labour after the farce of their last government. And before anyone says wellllll, this one is just as bad - no it isn't. They inherited a total meltdown of law and order, immigration unlimited on Blairs orders. Pensions stolen by Brown, and then the unions tried to blame Cameron. Economy in the hands of Brussels via Gordon Brown. Some people need to get a life, seriously. Labour have done worse than if Hitler had got in, Lord Sutch making PM, Napoleon, Hadrian, William the conqueror, and Kaiser Bills batman. The UK has been totally and irrevokably screwed.

BossMark 05-22-14 09:29 AM

^^
And what about the 18 years of Tory power under that bitch Thatcher and then John Major?????

Red Devil 05-22-14 11:02 AM

I have got to answer that. Firstly, no need for insulting the dead.

Fact: You like many others are a victim of socialist anti Thatcher propaganda. I was here at that time, were you?

The real culprit was Scargill, the miners communist leader. Just like Red Ken on the docks, they both used their members to fight the Tories when in power. Strange that they never had any problems under labour governments. Why do you think thousands of miners went off on their own and formed the Democratic Miners Union. It wasn't because they loved Maggie, they were all staunch labour voters.

Scargill in this case, deliberately manipulated the miners into strikes, and, coupled with bring in a rent a mob, fought a personal war against 'that woman'. He did not like a woman being in power, let alone a tory one. He was a typical male We are the bosses, person. He thought women should be in kitchens or in beds.

You, Boss, like many thousands of others, who were not even there, believe what was spouted in Comprehensives etc. It never happened. The mines were not closed to 'spite the miners' - they had become far too dangerous to work in and it was miners themselves who shut them down because it would have cost billions to make right the damage caused by the strikes. A lot of mines collapsed and were flooded because Scargill ordered the pumps switched off, oh he knew what he was doing alright.

Another myth that Maggie is blamed for is 'stealing the milk from children' which was spread about by Labour.

What she DID do was stop the milk because 1. The kids hated it. It was always warm, because in winter, it was parked next to the radiators. And 2. Thousands of gallons a day was being poured down the drain. 3. I remember school milk - it was vile and made us have stomach aches. There were no cold rooms or fridges in schools in those days. Labour knew this, which is why it was never reinstated.

BossMark 05-22-14 11:20 AM

Hey Mr Red Devil you ask if I was there, well mate I was a coal miner for 23 years 1980 to 2003 when the Selby coal field shut down.
And no I dont blame Thatcher entirely Scargill was an idiot and walked straight in to the Tory trap, he should put it to the vote then things may have well been different then, but he was right on one account on how many pits the Tories wanted to close, and they lied through their teeth about that, until all came out in January 2014.

BossMark 05-22-14 11:33 AM

You should always vote with your conscience.

Unless you don't have one, then you should probably vote Tory.

Found this political quiz lets who you really are :haha:

Red Devil 05-22-14 12:30 PM

Ok boss I stand corrected. But it was not a 'tory engineered' confrontation. Scargill tried what he succeeded at with Heath, brought a democratically elected govt down. He came up against sterner opposition the second time. Remember, he is a militant far left trotski living in a capitalist mansion near Barnsley.

I agree and have hardly no time for Scargill even though I spent 12 months on strike which as I have already said was partly his fault.

Not right atm but a few lines to BM and RD if I may.

I remember school milk (approaching 57 years of age)

I was a police officer during the miners strike and on occasion was called upon to confront 'flying pickest'

Scargill made it personal between Maggie and himself and as such was equally guilty of engineering the problem via means of denying his membership a vote

More pits were closed under a Labour government than those during Tory rule

I'm eternally grateful for the stance Maggie took over the Falklands but the truth is she struck gold on the timing as her popularity at the time was at an all time low and it is highly unlikely she would have enjoyed another term in office

I'm not sure the court case over the property he resides in and is owned by the NUM has been resoved (but I could be wrong)

Last but not least, I'm a Labour Party member but in no way consider either side to be totally right or wrong...I'm certainly not blinkered

Good debate gentlemen, carry on in the way you have both done thus far, it does you both credit.

Not doing well as I had hoped, but seem to be doing rather well in London.

Jimbuna 05-23-14 06:41 AM

LibDems maintain control of two councils and lose control of their other two...I'm surprised it wasn't worse.

So far:
....Councils.....Seats....
LAB 41 +5.....844 +145
CON 21 -9.....704 -122
LD 2 -2.........225 -125
UKIP 0 0........92 +91
GRN 0 0........10 +7
OTH 0 0........44 +7
NOC 17 +6.....N/A N/A

STEED 05-23-14 08:40 AM

I know not all the results are in so based on what is in I think we are heading for another close general election resulting in a hung parliament. Have to see all the council results and the EU results on Sunday to nail it down a bit.

BossMark 05-23-14 09:00 AM

UKIP are now claiming to be a dominant political party after failing to gain control of a single council in the UK.

I don't know who they're comparing themselves to, but even the Lib Dems managed that one...
