This video was shot on the edge of Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles and, at the time, the LAPD had a long standing animus against live rock performances in the city, dating back to an infamous Pink Floyd concert some years previous (if you watch the Floyd film, The Wall, the riot scene where the police are clubbing concertgoers was inspired by that event), so the dialog in the clip was highly indicative of the police attitudes. The concert did go on and there was no damage or violence...

Interestingly, while the Beatles have often been cited as the first to hold a concert on a rooftop, the Jefferson Airplane actually were the first in Nov 1968, prior to the Beatles in Jan 1969. The Airplane did their show as part of the filming for a Jean Luc Goddard film; since then, a host of other bands and performers have imitated the stunt...
