Creeping past Scapa Flow on the 9th of September 1939, the hydrophone operator didn't bother to mention about the HMS Hood and two Renown class BB's cruising up alongside me until they were less than 500 metres away! I tried a snap shot with my two remaining torpedos, but I guess they heard my screaming at the operator, as the Hood easily dodged them and went on its merry way.
If only the surrounding destroyer escort had been so nice as well. An hour later I was a thin sheet of metal on the bottom... |
that just happened to me last night too :P
Scapa's very shallow. |

I think thats the first time I've been upset about being in almost perfect position to intercept a convoy. Was on a speed run back from Rockall, heading home to Lorient. EDIT: Annnnnnnnnnnd..... They found me.... sigh.... like 8 tankers and 4 -5 large merchants int his one too... AND IM IN PERFECT POSITION! :wah::wah: http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/1...0111812810.png |
:damn: That's why when I'm all out of torpedo's, I go straight home and ignore all contacts.

If nothing else I try to do the "realistic" thing and send a contact report. |

Too tired for this....
Tried to surface attack in bad weather, just close enough to fire off a salvo, and sink, a Large merchant. Good tonnage. Not sure why it was the lead corner of the convoy, but oh well. Tried to escape on the surface. Almost made it. Could see the search lights in the fog looking for me. Thought I was clear, when all of a sudden, 3-4 starshells go off over my head. http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/6328/fuuuuu1.jpg So I Crash dive, intendeing to go deep, but then I immediately told the crew to go to 220m. Oops, well the dive of Doom doesn't always happen, maybe I'll get lucky. Now I got at least 2 Black swans peppering me with wasserbomben, and I'm having to throttle between slow and 1/3 just to maintain depth, so I'm bouncing between 240 and 220m right now. Too tired. Pause. Bed time. |
BdU sending me to patrol AN18 in mid 1940 made me go Ahhhhhh!
After I enthusiastically set course from Wilhelmshaven I set TC to 1024. Upon reaching AN18 (righ off the Scottish Coast; that should have made me think...) I drop out of TC to find myself in the middle of a huge minefield. Like I said, should have thought of that when they assigned me there but luckily I didn't hit anything. Strangely didn't find a single ship. Then when traveling to another grid I get a message saying The Netherlands (my country irl) has fallen into German hands. Ok we're playing a U-boat sim from an Axis perspective but still, sad news. I hadn't gotten this message in earlier careers. .... which isn't that much of a surprise considering the Netherlands were invaded on may 10th and it only took the Germans five days to annex it... :nope: But why do they have to rub it in! lol |

lol. You're right. I wasn't clear; I patrolled the entire grid (Only the more southern ares of the grid had mines) and didn't find a single ship. Nor in the adjacent grid.

2 Sept, 1939.
AN12, right on the prime meridian. I have seen more tonnage over the last 5 days than most Kaleuns would see in a career. I just know that tomorrow morning it's all going to disappear. This duck has had over 100k tons in it's sights already. With careful target selection, I could have had >25k. In a type II. I know there's going to be nothing but destroyers tomorrow. |
Yup... nothing.... I did find a 12k large merchant on the evening of the 2nd. Followed it till just after midnight, then sank it at 0204. Had to alter the log to read 0214 since the attack orders went out at 0212....... "whistles innocently"
