I decided to spend some more time on WWI merchantmen...the Collier "Birnamwood", still incomplete at the moment. Hull sections can be blown away, hatch covers can break off, and boilers will spray steam or burst, based on enhancements to the game's particle effects. Portholes and windows are 3D with a glass material layer, unlike the "painted on" fake portholes used in tga or DDS files. Like many other ships, this merchant may really be a Q-Ship with concealed weapons. https://scontent.fphl2-1.fna.fbcdn.n...3e&oe=59B778C7 https://scontent.fphl2-1.fna.fbcdn.n...62&oe=599F83D8 https://scontent.fphl2-1.fna.fbcdn.n...61&oe=59A54BDB https://scontent.fphl2-1.fna.fbcdn.n...67&oe=59B9311C |
IABL one question, are you going to add some bulk carriers in the mod? I know that the B.C. existed during ww1 and one (the italian "Milazzo") was sunk by an austro-hungarian sub.

Fun fact: "Milazzo" was sunk by my High School friend's ancestor (yes, Ritter von Trapp, the "Sound of Music" guy). :D Her sister ship "Volturno" was also torpedoed and sunk, shortly before the war ended. As you said, there were bulk carriers back then. Often they looked a little bit like oil tankers, with a superstructure way up front and the smokestack all the way at the back. Italy, Holland, and Great Britain all had this type of bulk carrier. "Milazzo" and "Volturno" were technological marvels for their time; they were huge (11,400 GRT) and had very advanced cargo handling equipment. They had dry cargo space and tanks for oil. There was even a miniature railroad installed to unload cargo. It's too bad they did not survive the war. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...SS_Milazzo.jpg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...LOC_22240v.jpg https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikiped...lustration.jpg |
Collier is now skinned; more pictures at the Facebook page.

Yeah, this needs to be released, things can always be added at a later date, as long as the core is ready.

I have a huge amount of items in the pipeline! :D My mind is working at a mile a minute with new ideas, content, and units to be included.... right now I have four Wings3d windows open! lol. Projects for advertising the mod take time - for instance, the "Lusitania" video took about 4-5 months. On the two days before the 100th Anniversary I literally got about 1 hour of sleep; every hour (aside from work) was spent getting that video out! I do not want to go too heavy on advertising to the point where content creation suffers. For that reason, advertising video #2 (which was to have been about the Live Bait Squadron) is on hiatus. However, there will be more images coming soon, and more Facebook updates. I am truly amazed, as always, at the potential for replayability and new campaign features that the SH4 campaign engine offers. More news later, and thank you for your interest! |
